The Marsh ODI Cup 2021 is winding down to a close. Some of the luster of the tournament has been lost as the top players have gone to India to play the IPL. However, there are still some top Australian players to watch out for.
The final group match for both Western Australia and Tasmania will have some significance but not too much. Tasmania has no chance of making it into the Final while Western Australia will need a massive (and possibly unrealistic) margin of victory to be able to sneak in on run-rate.
Still, expect the team to go at it hard in what is the final domestic ODI assignment of this season.
Western Australia vs Tasmania Marsh ODI Cup 2021 is going to be played at the WACA, Perth on the 8th of April 2021.
The batsmen for Western Australia have been in very good touch in recent matches. They have been able to score freely and ensure that their team gets to totals of above 300 on a regular basis. It helps that the wicket at the WACA has been very good for batting as well, however, that should not take anything away from the batsmen.
Sam Whiteman, Shaun Marsh, and Josh Inglis got runs for WA in the previous match. However, the likes of Cameron Bancroft, Cameron Green, and Hilton Cartwright cannot be underestimated either.
There is a lot of batting talent and six-hitting power in this lineup.
Among the bowlers, Matthew Kelly and Joel Paris have been in very good form. They will enjoy bowling at the WACA where they will have some extra bounce to exploit. Cameron Green, Liam Guthrie, Aaron Hardie, and Liam O’Connor round out a bowling attack that is not the strongest and can be taken for some runs.
Josh Philippe, SM Whiteman, D'Arcy Short, Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis, Cameron Green, AJ Turner, Ashton Agar, Jason Behrendorff, Liam Guthrie, Lance Morris.
On paper, Tasmania’s ODI team is pretty strong and should have been more successful than it has been over the season. Batsmen like Ben McDermott, Caleb Jewell, Matthew Wade, Tim Paine, and Jordan Silk give it a lot of firepower up top.
Beau Webster also just recently scored a brilliant century in the Sheffield Shield and while he is not the most powerful of batsmen, he can be useful down the order as well.
Not a bad batting lineup at all then and one that we think is very capable of getting enough runs to challenge WA in this match.
The bowling is also pretty good and the kind of attack that would enjoy the conditions at the WACA. Peter Siddle, Nathan Ellis, Jackson Bird, and Beau Webster should form the bowling attack alongside a possible replacement for Rilee Meredith.
The big fast bowler, Meredith, was one of the most expensive picks in the IPL and will have left for India by the time this match is played.
Still, Tasmania looks to have all the tools to be able to pull off an upset in this match.
Caleb Jewell, Ben McDermott, Matthew Wade, Jake Doran, Jordan Silk, Beau Webster, Mitchell Owen, Thomas Rogers, TD Andrews, Jackson Bird, Sam Rainbird.
The team that wins the toss is likely to want to bat first. The conditions are not going to change too much and getting a big total on the board is going to be the idea for both teams.

There is no rain forecast for Perth on match day and so we should have an uninterrupted match to enjoy. The pitch has been flat and in general very good for batting. That should allow for the batsmen from both teams to play freely and result in a high-scoring contest.
We think 300 is the bare minimum that teams batting first are going to be aiming for.
We think WA has a slight advantage since it is in good form and is playing at home. However, the Tasmania team is not one to be taken lightly. We think it has been undervalued by the bookies and this is a good opportunity to back the underdog.
Bet on Tasmania to win.
