WAC vs VAC Match Prediction - Mar 14, 2023

Western Australia hasn’t done much wrong in the SS this season, as they only lost one game, with two draws and six wins. They’re way ahead of every other state and will certainly make the Final, but the biggest question is whom they will play against.

Victoria knows that beating WA will help them jump Queensland in the standings and be able to take on Western Australia yet again in the Final. If Victoria wins this game and Queensland loses to Tasmania, then a big shift will happen on the ladder.

The big news is that bowler Scott Boland will play for Victoria, after he was away for some time in India for the Australia squad. The Vics have won four games in a row and are on a roll at the moment.

WAC vs VAC Team Previews

Western Australia

WA are the current Marsh Cup champions, and if all goes well for them, then most likely the Sheffield Shield winners as well. There will be a few minor changes to the side, as Josh Inglis and Mitch Marsh will depart to India for ODI duties, which means Josh Philippe is back to bat. Bowlers Matt Kelly and Joel Paris will be rested.

Western Australia is a tough team to beat on any day, and even if they are a lock to reach the Final, it’s unlikely they’ll take this game easy. Victoria will be the most concerned about Bancroft, as he’s the SS’s leading run-scorer with 825 and scored a big 176* against Tasmania recently. Whiteman (572) and Hardie (313) are also ones to worry about.

The bowling is perhaps a little weaker than normal, as there’s no Morris, Paris, or Kelly in the squad. Victoria has got to feel a bit better about this, even if there are still solid names like Rocchiccioli, Stobo, and Moody to bowl.

Western Australia Playing 11

Aaron Hardie, Ashton Turner, Charlie Stobo, Corey Rocchiccioli, Teague Wyllie, Cameron Bancroft, Cameron Gannon, David Moody, Hilton Cartwright, Josh Philippe, Sam Whiteman.

Victoria

Even if Peter Handscomb is still away for the national side in India, there are still loads of great batsmen to continue this epic win streak for Victoria. Matthew Short is on fire right now with 479 runs and should continue his fantastic batting, as he’s picked up a century in each of his last SS games. Harris has been solid as well, but this game will be up to Short.

We’re hoping to see more batting from Sutherland, Chandrasinghe, and Harper, as they all need a chance to prove themselves in the unlikely event that Short doesn’t have a good game.

Victoria certainly doesn’t need to worry about bowling, as Boland is a big addition to the side and his experienced pace attack will provide a challenge for WA. Sutherland (33 wickets) and O’Neill (23) have been sneakily good this season and give the Vics a lot of varied bowling options.

WAC vs VAC Toss Prediction

Victoria should certainly choose to bowl first if winning the toss.

Pitch and Conditions

The WACA is great for pace bowlers due to the speed and bounce, so it’s usually not a surprise to see batters struggle. Still, many of these players have experience here due to the state games and BBL matches, so they’ll be familiar with the conditions.

WAC vs VAC Betting Tips

The Betway odds suggest that WA is the clear favourite, but we actually think that Victoria has a chance to win here. Not only is the money return quite good for a Victoria win, but the side is also boosted with the return of Boland, while WA has several key names missing. If Short and Harris can each make centuries for Victoria, and Sutherland, Boland, and O’Neill can trouble the WA batsmen, then it’ll be a great game.

Bet on Victoria to win.
