Every team just has a couple of matches remaining in the Sheffield Shield 2021 season and so a poor result can be particularly damaging. A lot of the matches in the tournament have been draws so far either because of poor weather or extremely flat pitches. We are hoping that this next match at the WACA will change that.
Western Australia and Victoria have both won just one match in the Sheffield Shield this season neither of them has lost a single match either. A win here could boost the chances of making the final and possibly fighting for the title.
Western Australia vs Victoria Sheffield Shield 2021 is going to be played at the WACA, Perth from the 25th of March 2021.
The biggest strength that WA brings into this match is its batting. There have been some truly remarkable performances by the WA batsmen this season led by Cameron Green’s 251 in the previous match.
Green is in spectacular form and he would be one of the batsmen to watch out for in this match as well. Cameron Bancroft, Sam Whiteman, Shaun Marsh, and Hilton Cartwright, and Josh Inglis form a very strong lineup. The best part is that most of these batsmen are in form including Inglis who just score 91 in the Marsh ODI Cup.
WA should not have any trouble with scoring runs in our opinion.
The bigger challenge is going to be to take 20 wickets. The WACA has been quite flat this season and the bowlers have had to work very hard for their scalps. Joel Paris, Matthew Kelly, Liam Guthrie, and Cameron Gannon are all good bowlers but they could do with a bit of assistance from the surface.
Cameron Green’s bowling has not been as good as we would have expected it to be and that is a concern as well.
CT Bancroft, SM Whiteman, Shaun Marsh, Cameron Green, Hilton Cartwright, Jake Carder, Josh Inglis, Joel Paris, Matthew Kelly, Cameron Gannon, Lance Morris.
Victoria has been having a horror run in domestic competition this season and the Sheffield Shield is perhaps where it has done the best. There is no doubt that it will have to be on top of its game to be able to get out of the WACA unscathed.
Victoria’s batting is a bit suspect. Nic Maddinson and Peter Handscomb are the obvious names to watch out for with Marcus Harris at the top of the order playing a very important role as well. Apart from these three, though, there is nothing much to really depend on.
Sure, Matthew Short, Seb Gotch, and Jake Fraser-McGurk can all bat but they are not very dependable at this stage in their careers. With the three main batters in the top-3, one good spell with the new ball is all that is going to take to knock out the stuffing of Victoria’s batting.
James Pattinson, Scott Boland, and Will Sutherland should enjoy the bowling conditions at the WACA but they are up against a strong batting lineup. We see a lot of hard work ahead of the Victorian bowlers in this match.
Marcus Harris, Nic Maddinson, Travis Dean, Peter Handscomb, Matt Short, Sebastian Gotch, Will Sutherland, James Pattinson, Scott Boland, Mitchell Perry, Jon Holland.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first. The conditions are the best to bat on in the beginning and the cracks could start to open up as the match progresses making it a lot more difficult to score runs in the third and fourth inning.

The weather forecast for the match is quite good and we should be able to et enough overs in to hopefully get a result. The pitch at the WACA has been quite batsman-friendly this season and we would love to see some spice in it to assist the bowlers.
Plenty of runs should be on offer for the first couple of matches after which the cracks in the pitch could make it easier for the bowlers to make more of an impact.
The draw is a very real possibility in this match, however, we think it may be worth gambling on the win for Western Australia. You can either choose the ‘No Draw’ option or hedge with the Draw to cover yourself but that would mean a reduction in the return that you are looking at.
Bet on Western Australia to win.
