Knights finally notched their first win of the tournament with a splendid performance against Cape Cobras in a recently concluded match. With their win, the points table in the CSA T20 challenge is once again rendered wide open. Cape Cobras, however, were left searching for their first win and will be desperate to get it when they meet Warriors in the upcoming contest.
The Warriors and the Cobras are set to meet each other on 23rd February at Kingsmead Oval, Durban. Both sides are still winless in the tournament and will be itching to get their name on the board. We expect both sides to come out all guns blazing and a mouth-watering encounter is certainly on the cards.
Warriors had a dismal run in the recently concluded Momentum One Day Cup and were hoping for a fine start in the shortest format of the game, but it was not to be. With two losses in two matches, the Warriors are placed at the second spot from the bottom. However, they still have a decent net run-rate of -0.266, which can get better if they manage to string a few wins in their next few matches.
Given how jam-packed this tournament is, a break of one match could work wonders, especially if a team is having a tough spell. The same is expected to hold true for the Warriors as well as they get back to the field after a break of one day. They last played their match against the Dolphins, in which Dolphins came out on top by just three runs.
Batting first, the Warriors didn't get off to a good start, but with decent contributions right throughout the order, they scraped their way to 143. The total of 143 runs never looked convincing enough as Dolphins handled the Warriors' bowlers with considerable ease. Dolphins were two down for 128 when the rain made further play impossible. The match was called off and Dolphins were declared winners on the basis of the DLS method.
On paper, the Warriors have a decent side with the talent available right through. Having said that, their batsmen have not been performing right from the beginning of the season and that has been their biggest problem. With the tournament getting more and more competitive with every passing match, it's high time for the likes of JJ Smuts, Marco Marais, and Gihahn Cloete to start contributing. If that happens, the Warriors will be back in the business soon.
Gihahn Cloete, Marco Marais, JJT Smuts, Lesiba Ngoepe, Sinethemba Qeshile, Wihan Lubbe, Ayabulela Gqamane, Marco Jansen, Anrich Nortje, Mthiwekhaya Nabe, Lizo Makosi.
Even though the Cobras are reeling at the bottom of the ladder, they are not out of the tournament yet. With three matches gone, they are still searching for a win and a poor run-rate of -0.533 isn't helping their cause either. Unless the Cobras can script something special, it is going to be hard for them to get back to the top. It's not going to be easy but is certainly possible.
While the Cobras have not lost any of their three matches by a significant margin, they have looked far from their best. In their first match, the Dolphins defeated them by 14 runs and that was followed by another poor show against the Dolphins, who defeated Cobras by 16 runs. In their most recent match, the Cobras came close to a win, but Knights trumped them at the end, winning the match by three wickets.
Even with the loss, the Cobras fans would be happy to see their favorite batsmen score some runs. Zubayr Hamza and Kyle Verreynne did exceedingly well, scoring 77 and 45 respectively. However, there was no other batsmen who scored well at a rapid pace and that is what arguably what cost Cobras the match.
In their defense of a 167-run total, the lack of experience of Cobras' bowlers was pretty apparent. Barring George Linde, almost everyone who bowled his complete quota was carted for runs. Cobras' batsmen are now looking and fine form and if their bowlers can join the party, getting past this Cobras unit is going to be mighty difficult.

With only a few matches to go for each team, a win will be imperative for both sides to stay in the tournament. A loss here for Cobras will mean curtains for them whereas a loss for the Warriors will make their next one a do-or-die match. Comparing the two sides on paper, the Cobras certainly seem marginally ahead due to a solid batting lineup. Also, most of their players found form against the Knights and will be looking to take the game all the way against the Warriors. The Warriors, on the other hand, still looked a little rusty in their last match. For all those reasons and the ones mentioned above, betting on a Cobras' win should be the way to go here.
