WAR vs WPR Team Previews

Warriors

The Warriors outfit is on a 3-game losing streak at the moment. They are yet to win a match in this year's CSA one-day challenge. They had to endure a 5-wicket loss in their last match against the Knights. Knights won the game with 18 balls remaining. Batting first Warriors scored 222 runs all out from 48 overs. This was a disappointing effort from the Warriors' batting line-up after they made a good start to their innings and were 104 for 1 at one stage in 1.5 overs. they looked good for a target of 280 runs at that stage.

However, they lost wickets after that and ended up losing momentum. Tristan Stubbs who bats at the number 3 position was the top scorer for the Warriors with 46 runs from 54 balls with 5 fours. The second-highest score in the innings was from Diego Rosier who contributed 45 runs from 61 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes. But, after these two and Wihan Lubbe were dismissed the rest of the batting capitulated and the entire team was bowled out for 222 runs from 48 overs. Wihan Lubbe also contributed 45 runs from 61 balls with 6 fours and 1 six.

The Knights batsmen made a decent start to their innings with several batters making contributions to their innings. However, the Warriors' bowlers were successful in picking up regular wickets and it took a big partnership in the lower middle order between Patrick Botha and Patrick Kruger that turned the tables in favor of the Knights. Ziyaad Abrahams and Tiaan van Vuuren picked up 2 wickets each during the chase. The opening ball bowler Beyers Swanepoel was the only other wicket-taker for the Warriors in the Knights' effort.

In their reply, Western Province reached the target comfortably scoring 160 for 3 from 31.1 overs. Tony de Zorzi from Western Province was declared the player of the match.

Other bowlers that supported him well were Tshepo Moreki and Mihlali Mpongwana who picked up 2 wickets a piece.

Titans did get an early wicket during the run chase, but Tony de Zorzi dashed all their hopes of staging a recovery with a hard-hitting 83 not out from 92 balls to take the Western Province team home easily in the end. De Zorzi hit 6 fours and 3 sixes in his effort at the crease. He was supported by Yaseen Vallie and Gavin Kaplan during the chase. They scored 30 and 22 runs respectively to guide their team home.
