About the Match
The fight for the final qualification place is going to come down to the final game of the tournament. The Lyca Kovai Kings will take on Ruby Trichy Warriors knowing that they need a win to qualify. If they fail to do that then the VB Thiruvallur Veerans will be the fourth team to make it to the knockout stages. Trichy is playing this game only for pride and to give its fans something to cheer about.
Ruby Trichy Warriors
The Warriors would have thought they had done enough in their last match against Karaikudi Kallai when they scored 190 for 2 batting first. It would require a record chase to lose but that is exactly what happened.
A brilliant century by Bharath Shankar went in vain as the Warriors put in a forgettable bowling performance.
Now, in the last match of their tournament, Ruby Trichy Warriors will once again try their level best to end the season with something to show for it.
The batting will once again depend on Bharath Shankar and Baba Inderjith for the majority of the runs. The two batsmen are streets ahead of anyone else in their team and this evident in the fact that no one apart from them has reached a total of hundred runs in the tournament.
J Kaushik was the only bowler to escape the last game with some semblance of dignity as everyone else was thrashed to all over the park. Kousik, who had been impressive in the game up until then ended up giving 50 runs in the four overs he bowled.
A much-improved performance will be needed by the Trichy Warriors if they are to stop the Lyca Kovai Kings.
Lyca Kovai Kings
Things were looking grim for the Kings when they gave up 196 runs to the Veerans in their last match. Surely, this record chase would be a little too much for the Kings? Murali Vijay did not think so as he led the chase on his return to the tournament scoring 69 runs from 44 balls with 4 sixes. The person who propelled the Kings past the winning line though was Anirudh Sita Ram who also scored 69 runs off 43 balls with 4 sixes.
Credit must be given Srinivasan’s 38 from 24 balls at the end as well.
It was a performance that would have the Kovai Kings a lot of confidence but a reality check about their bowling as well.
Vignesh, Arun and Mohammad were all very good considering the overall situation but Harish Kumar, Ajith Ram, and M Sivakumar were very poor in delivering under pressure.
This game against the Trichy Warriors will once again be a high-pressure game and they will need to do much better to stay in the competition.
The biggest advantage that the Kovai Kings have is the presence of an experienced international batsman like Murali Vijay in the lineup. He will not only provide steel at the top of the order but be a useful sounding board when the situation gets a little tough.
Pitch and Conditions
The weather forecast for the match is not the best with some scattered thunderstorms hovering around. We could have some rain interruptions and a shortened match, a shame considering the importance of the game. The pitch at the Chidambaram is absolutely stunning for batting with close to 400 runs being scored in the last match.
