About the Match
The Warriors defeated Lions in the last game by 6 wickets to take the second position on the table with 14 points after 4 games; they will take on Knights, who are at the bottom of the table with only 5 points after 5 games, on 30th November at Port Elizabeth. Warriors have won two consecutive matches and they would like to continue with their winning momentum; Knights on the other hand, have been on a losing streak and would be eager to make a much-needed comeback here. It needs to be seen which side will cleverly use the resources to dominate the other and emerge victorious.
Chasing 153 runs against Lions, middle-order batsman Christiaan Jonker posted a brilliant 49 off 18 balls to power the team to another win; Colin Ackermann and JJ Smuts played useful knocks that kept the scoreboard ticking and they achieved the target with 2 overs to spare. Earlier, Smuts used his spin skills to take 2 wickets and stifle the opposition with an economical spell; fast-bowlers Magala and Andrew Birch took a wicket each and restricted the Lions to 152 runs.
Against Knights previously, the batting line-up posted 157 runs thanks to an unbeaten 48 off 27 by Jonker; openers JJ Smuts and Seyibokwe partnered well to post a 47-run opening stand. The bowlers combined their skills well to demolish the opposition and successfully defend the total to win the match by a thumping 42 runs. Medium pacer Basheeru-Deen Walters claimed 3-16 in 3 overs to stifle the Knights’ top-order while Andrew Birch, Magala, Smuts and Nqweni provided quick breakthroughs and they are in good form to repeat the match-winning performance again.
Overall, the Warriors have done well to reach the top half of the table and they will be determined to reach the top spot with another win on Wednesday.
In the last match against Titans, the batting line-up was completely demolished by the opponent’s pace attack; Patrick Kruger and Theunis de Bruyn fought hard by posting 79 and 47 runs respectively but they couldn’t survive till the end, and lost the match by a heart-wrenching 10 runs. Earlier, Merchant de Lange, Olivier and Schalkwyk took 4 wickets between them to restrict the opponents to 168; however, the batsmen fell short in their efforts. They will need to pull up their socks here if they want to keep their campaign alive.
Against Dolphins, they could muster only 153 runs batting first; Bruyn posted an unbeaten 63 while Kruger and Gous scored 28 runs each. However, the bowlers couldn’t reign in the opponents leading to a loss by 8 wickets. They have a good combination of pace and spin which could try and strategize well here to outwit the Warriors.
With the competition getting heated up, the Knights will have to up their ante and come out with all their firepower if they want to avenge their earlier defeat against Warriors.
The Warriors are a tough side that can pose a stiff challenge to the Knights here; although the contest could swing either way, we feel that the Warriors with their sharp bowling attack are better placed to win on Wednesday
