About the Match
The top two teams in the league, Warriors and Titans will face each other on 11th December at East London before the playoffs; the Titans are at the top of the table with 29 points and a superior run rate while Warriors, who won by 6 wickets against Titans in an earlier match, have 27 points and will be determined to repeat their winning performance again on Sunday. It’s definitely going to be a close finish between these two strong units and whichever team can keep a cool head above its shoulders, will be better placed to emerge victorious.
JJ Smuts is in terrific form, helping the team post challenging targets and chasing one with ease. He posted a superb 107 from just 58 balls during the chase for 217 runs against Dolphins and steered the team across the finish line with help from Colin Ingram and Christiaan Jonker, who scored 55 and 36 runs respectively. Earlier, the bowlers weren’t sharp enough, giving away too many runs; although pacemen BD Walters and Sisanda Magala took 5 wickets between them, they ended up facing a stiff target of 217. Andrew Birch has been regularly taking wickets and will be vital here.
Spinners JJ Smuts, Colin Ingram, Ackermann and Gqamane add depth to the attack and they did well to restrict Lions to 157 runs in the previous match but failed to reach the target with the bat. Ingram, Jonker and Birch tried their best to keep the runs flowing but with players like Smuts and Ackermann out for single digits, they crumbled under pressure to lose by 5 runs.
Their all-round performance has got them enough points to make it to the qualifier and they can bring all their firepower on Sunday to defeat Titans yet again.
The batting line-up is very deep with hard-hitting players in the top-order like Jonathan Vandiar, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen and Heino Kuhn, who have helped build solid foundation many a time. Middle-order batsmen and all-rounders Albie Morkel, Farhaan Behardien and David Wiese have proved to be a strong force with the bat when it comes to setting targets or during chase; they have plenty of skills to help the team overcome challenges thrown by the Warriors here.
Against Lions, they posted a gigantic total of 230 runs batting first thanks to Vandiar’s well-made 67 and useful contributions by the others down the line. Medium Pacers Malusi Siboto and Junior Dala wreaked havoc on the opponents, taking 5 wickets between them and they are in good form to contain the Warriors too. Tabraiz Shamsi, the left-arm chinaman, brings his special skills to the table and along with speedsters Morkel, Wiese and Ngidi, can outwit the opponents on Sunday.
Overall, they have emerged as a tough nut to crack this season and will be determined to earn a ticket straightaway to the finals here.
The Warriors have succeeded to defeat Titans before and they have plenty of match-winners to make it happen again; on the other hand, Titans have come out all guns blazing with bat and have a well-balanced bowling attack. Warriors have looked superb in their recent game look better placed to repeat their previous win
