About the Match
Leading the points table in the ongoing Ram Slam T20 Challenge with 24 points in their kitty, Titans are looking to be strong contenders for the title; they will take on Warriors, who are currently in the 2nd place with 19 points, on 2nd December at Centurion. The Titans defeated Knights recently by 10 runs after successfully defending 168 but they lost the match against Dolphins in the last outing after failing to defend 170; they will be determined to go back to their winning ways here. The Warriors defeated the Knights in their last game by 8 wickets and would be eager to continue with their winning form; it needs to be seen which side manages to emerge victorious on Friday.
Batting first against Dolphins, the Titans got off to a shaky start, losing players like Klaasen, Vandiar and Adams early on; Farhaan Behardien scored an unbeaten 72 off just 40 balls to take the total to 170 along with Albie Morkel. However, the bowlers proved to be expensive and despite a good show by spinner Shaun von Berg, they lost the match by 6 wickets. This was their first loss of the season and they will be eager to bounce back with a win here.
Against Knights, players like Qaasim Adams, Heino Kuhn and Farhaan Behardien batted well to keep the scoreboard ticking and post a competitive 168; fast-bowlers David Wiese, Albie Morkel, Siboto and Junior Dala restricted the opposition from scoring the winning runs. Shaun and Dane Piedt provide the spin options for the team while others like Ngidi and Wiese bring variety to the attack.
Overall, they have performed superbly to reach the top of the table, and can come out with all their firepower to keep the lead.
All-rounders JJ Smuts and Colin Ackermann wreaked havoc on the Knights’ middle-order taking 2 wickets each and stifling the opponents; medium pacers Gqamane and Sisanda Magala and speedster Andrew Birch were also stupendous in their efforts to demolish the Knights and restrict them to a lowly 93. Smuts then came back to score an unbeaten 49 and along with Colin Ingram took the team across the finish line with almost 8 overs to spare.
In the previous game against Lions, the bowlers proved to be a tough nut to crack and the opposition was able to muster only 152 runs batting first; Smuts, Magala and Birch were among the wicket takers and they are in good form to continue providing regular breakthroughs. Christiaan Jonker top-scored with a superb 49 from 18 balls while JJ Smuts, Colin Ackermann and Seyibokwe contributed well to ensure they won the match in the end.
The Warriors have done well with bat and ball, and they have plenty of all-rounders who can turn the match in their team’s favour under tough situations.
Although the Titans have proved to be a strong unit, they recently suffered defeat that exposed some weaknesses in their batting and bowling. The Warriors on the other hand are peaking at the right moment and they seem to be better equipped to overcome challenges and win the match here.
