About the Match
After winning two games on the trot, Birmingham bears take on the defending champions, Northamptonshire. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 pm IST on 14th July at Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham. Northamptonshire had to stay content with one point as the relentless rain washed out their entire game against Yorkshire leaving them with one win in three games. On the contrary, the Bears are running high on confidence with two wins in two games. They are currently placed at 2nd spot in the points table and a win will further strengthen their position.
Warwickshire have been fantastic in the tournament so far. Their batting has been good, but it's been their bowling which has set up the task for them. In both the matches, their bowling has restricted the opposition for less than 160.
Rikki Clarke and Jeetan Patel have been standout bowlers for them. Against Worcestershire, Rikki Clarke demolished the batting by picking up three wickets in his spell. In their second game, Jeetan Patel was the pick of the bowlers as he grabbed four scalps for just 22 runs. Oliver Hannon Dalby has been instrumental in their success as well. He hasn't allowed any opposition to get going in the death overs as he has picked up five wickets in two games.
Batsmen have chased down the targets set pretty easily with Ian Bell, Sam Hain, Grant Elliot, and William Porterfield doing well. They have the depth in batting lineup with Colin de Grandhomme and Rikki Clarke able to smack the ball around. Overall, the Bears have done well and with the balance they have, it would be tough for any team to stop them from doing well in the competition ahead.
Northamptonshire haven't been as impressive as they were in the 2016 edition of the tournament. Rain hampered their march when they appeared to gain some momentum. Their match against Yorkshire was washed out taking their tally to three points in as many games.
In both the games, it has been Ben Duckett who has done well for them. Against Derbyshire, he smashed 69 of 52 deliveries with good support from Joshua Cobb who scored 38 runs. Although this knock of theirs' went in vain, they ensured a win against Durham. Ben Duckett single-handedly guided them home with a strong 72 runs knock.
The defending champions haven't started off as well as they'd have liked, credit to rain and poor bowling efforts in the first match, they can still bounce back. With Duckett in fine form and batting lineup that goes deep, Northamptonshire have a good chance to make it to top eight once again.
It is going to be cracker of a game given the form of Warwickshire and Northamptonshire's ability to bounce back from tough situations. It's hard to choose between the team, but Warwickshire's effort in two games is tough to ignore. With Sam Hains in fine form and bowling worth watching when on song, Warwickshire is our pick for this match.
