About the Match
Shifting base to Florida with the focus on the cricket fans there, West Indies and India will play the 2 T20 matches of the series at Lauderhill, with the first T20 scheduled for 27th August. While India conquered the Windies in the tests 2-0, they will have a tough task at hand outsmarting the World Champions in the shortest format of the game and will line-up the best of the players for the upcoming match. West Indies, on the other hand, have had great success this year and will be eager to continue with their good form in T20; it will surely be a tough contest with either side trying to dominate the other on Saturday.
Carlos Brathwaite will debut as T20 captain after helping the team win the World Championship earlier this year and brings his hard-hitting skills to the table; being an all-rounder, he will look forward to performing well in all departments of the game while guiding his mates on the field. The batting line-up consists of experienced players like Chris Gayle, Andre Fletcher, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Marlon Samuels, Lendl Simmons and all-rounder Jason Holder.
The bowling department has spin specialists Sunil Narine and Samuel Badree, who can outwit the Indian batsmen with their clever spells; speedsters include Brathwaite, Holder and Russell, who along with Johnson Charles and Pollard can contribute in stifling the opposition.
The reigning champions can fight hard to keep their T20 record going strong; while the young captain will have a tough task tamingKohli and his men, he definitely has the firepower to do so.
MS Dhoni will lead the side consisting of batting experts like ViratKohli, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan; Ajinkya Rahane, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, who has been in good form, and Stuart Binny can stabilize the middle order and help keep the scoreboard ticking. Dhoni has tremendous experience successfully leading the team and can definitely strategize well against the Windies here.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who has performed consistently in the Caribbean and looks determined to continue doing well, will lead the spin attack along with bowlers like Amit Mishra and Jadeja. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who finished with 6 wickets in the 3rd test, Mohammad Shami, who has made a good comeback after injury taking regular wickets during the tests, young fast-bowler JaspritBumrah and Umesh Yadav are in the bowling squad and can pull off surprises here.
Overall, they are an experienced contingent and have done well in the recent test matches; Dhoni’s leadership skills and the players’ motivation to perform well under pressure can drive them to a win.
While India dominated the Windies in the tests, the T20 format is a different ball game and they will need to put their best foot forward here; on the other hand, West Indies, who have recently played here during the CPL, will be better aware of the conditions and can use the experience to challenge the visitors. The match could swing either way but we feel that India with their batting depth and in-form bowling attack will be better placed to emerge victorious here.
