About the Match
The West Indies pulled off one of their most famous wins and chased down more runs than ever before in their history. Can Pakistan mount a comeback in the second game or will the momentum propel the West Indies to even greater heights?
For the first 85 overs of the match, Pakistan looked like they had it in the bag. The asking rate had gone to almost 10 an over and none of the West Indies batsmen had played with any intent before Jason Mohammad decided to change things around.
His 91* of 58 balls aided by a cameo from Ashley Nurse (34 off 15) was enough to give the West Indies a 1-0 lead in the series. Since all three matches are going to be played at the same ground, much of the conditions for the next match can be expected to stay the same.
The pitch played much better than what it had in the past and looked very good for batting. A similar surface on offer could mean that we are in store for another high scoring encounter.
Now, even though the West indies managed to win the first match, it must be remembered that Pakistan dominated most of the encounter. Their batting came good with Ahmed Shahzad, Kamran Akmal, Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez all scoring runs. Babar Azam was the only one that missed out and will want to rectify that next time around.
The form that Kamran Akmal showed was excellent and is he is also extremely motivated to score as he is making a comeback after a long time. He is our pick to be the top scorer in the second match.
The bowling for Pakistan fell apart in the death overs and they would be particularly disappointed with the way their experienced bowlers performed. Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Amir were wayward and it was surprising that Imad Wasim only bowled three overs.
The debutant Shadab Khan was the pick of the bowlers and out choice to be the top Pakistani bowler once again.
The West Indians are playing without many of their biggest names, that are all currently busy with the IPL, yet this second string side has inked its name in the history books. Evan Lewis looked good and even though Kieron Powell started slow, he got more fluent as the game went on.
We have high hopes from Chadwick Walton who got out cheaply in the first game. He, along with Jason Mohammad, are the two players most likely to score big for the West Indies in the second match as well.
One area where the West Indies has been left behind other cricketing nations is in setting the pace early in the innings. This might become an issue if they have to bat first as they may end up getting too small a total to defend.
The West Indian bowling looked a little under strength in the last game as Gabriel returned from injury, Holder struggled to have any impact and Alzarri Joseph fizzled out after a good start. Only Ashley Nurse was able to have some impact and pick up 4 wickets.
We think that Alzarri is the most likely bowler to pick up the most wickets in this game, especially if gets a good total to bowl with.
Pakistan is in a must win position and we think they will lift themselves up to hit back strongly and win this game. Pakistan to win
