About the Match
It’s 2-0 in favor of Pakistan in the ongoing T20 series against hosts West Indies in the Caribbean after the visitors defeated the home team in the second match by 3 runs, successfully defending a meager 132. The two teams will now face off in the 3rd T20 match at Port of Spain on 1st April. Pakistan won both the matches till now hands down after a brilliant show with the ball; West Indies will be desperate for a win now and they will put up a strong fight to make a comeback on Saturday. The visitors, on the other hand, are at the cusp of another series win and will leave no stone unturned to emerge victorious.
Chasing 133 runs in the second match, hard-hitters like Pollard, Lewis and Simmons failed to build steady partnerships, leading to a batting collapse once again. Marlon Samuels was the leading run-scorer with 44 off 35 while Walton, Brathwaite and all-rounder Jason Holder contributed well with the bat; however, they fell short of the target by 3 runs to suffer their second consecutive defeat.
Earlier, spinners Sunil Narine and Badree took 4 wickets between them to topple the Pakistani batsmen; Brathwaite registered 3 wickets to his name while Williams claimed one wicket to restrict the visitors to 132 all-out. In the first match too, Holder, Brathwaite and Badree took wickets in regular intervals but they couldn’t defend the lowly total of 111 set by the batsmen.
The batting line-up would need to pull up its socks in order to make a comeback here; players like Samuels, Simmons, Pollard and Brathwaite could use their experience to help the team set a solid foundation whether batting first or while chasing a competitive total.
Shoaib Malik, Babar Azam and Ahmed Shehzad did well to start the innings at a good pace, batting first against West Indies in the second match. However, others, down the line couldn’t impress much and despite a heroic 24 off 10 by Wahab Riaz, they could muster only 132 runs in the end. However, the young spinner Shadab Khan once again proved his mettle, claiming a superb 4-14 to demolish the hosts’ chase. He had taken 3 wickets in the previous game too, giving away a measly 7 runs in 4 overs, and he is a strong asset in the spin attack.
Speedsters Sohail Tanvir, Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz have also been contributors with the wicket while the in-form spinner Imad Wasim brings depth to the squad along with Shadab Khan. In the first match, Sohaib Malik had posted a well-made 38 to steer the team to victory while chasing 112 runs; Babar Azam, Kamran Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad also did well to keep the scoreboard ticking.
They have won two games in a row and are high on morale to repeat the winning performance again; with an in-form spin attack, Pakistan has proved to be a formidable force to reckon with.
The hosts are struggling with the bat at present but they have strong resources to bounce back; the upcoming game is crucial if they want to keep the series alive but we feel that Pakistan’s all-round performance gives them the upper hand to continue with their winning momentum on Saturday.
