The Super Smash 2020-21 season is about to get underway and we believe this is one of the best tournaments for T20 enthusiasts to follow. Yes, the tournament does not have the bling that the Big Bash has across the pond but the quality of talent in New Zealand cricket is staggering considering the small population of the country.
Starting us off are the Wellington Firebirds and the Auckland Aces, There should be plenty of international faces that we get to see now that the limited over engagements for the national team are over.
Wellington Firebirds vs Auckland Aces Super Smash 2020-21 is going to be played at the Basin Reserve, Wellington on the 24th of December 2020.
The Wellington Firebirds will be hoping to see all three of their contracted New Zealand international players in action for the first match. Devon Conway and Jimmy Neesham will make a massive difference to their team if they are available to play.
Devon Conway is having the season of his dreams and it looks like his move to New Zealand from South Africa is finally paying off. We think he is going to have a big impact on this season of the Super Smash as well.
Jimmy Neesham is a genuine all-rounder that can take wickets and provide a match-winning contribution with the bat as well.
It is not just about the internationals, though. Players such as Michael Bracewell, Hamish Bennett, Rachin Ravindra, and Michael Snedden give the team a pretty good base to work from as well.
Tom Blundell is not going to be available for this match since he is a part of the test squad.
The batting looks to be in good hands but the bowling is a bit on the weaker side for sure.
Rachin Ravindra, Finn Allen, Troy Johnson, Michael Bracewell, Fraser Colson, Jamie Gibson, Lauchie Johns, PY Husband, Logan van Beek, Hamish Bennett, Michael Snedden.
Every season, the most stacked team in the Super Smash is the Auckland Aces. It has a galaxy of stars to choose from but somehow, the going always seems to be a bit tough for the Aces.
This season could be a bit different as the scheduling of the New Zealand matches could end up tilting things in its favor.
We expect Martin Guptill to be available for this match and his presence is going to be a big boost. Guptill may be a bit short of runs in recent matches but that is only going to make him hungrier and more dangerous heading into this competition.
Lockie Ferguson is out injured and so we do not think he is going to play in the initial few weeks of the Super Smash.
Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Louis Delport, Will Somerville, and Jamie Brown are some of the other players to look out for. Colin Munro is also a part of the squad but he is currently playing the Big Bash.
The batting department is very strong with three New Zealand internationals leading the way but the bowling could do with a few reinforcements.
Graeme Beghin, Sean Solia, William O'Donnell, Robert O'Donnell, Ben Horne, Bradley Rodden, William Somerville, Olly Pringle, Ryan Harrison, Benjamin Lister, Danru Ferns.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. Matches at the Basin Reserve are usually very high-scoring and defending a total can be quite tough.

There is some rain around on match day that could delay the match and so we may be in for some reduction in overs. Hopefully, the rain will not interrupt proceedings, though, and allow us to enjoy a full contest.
The pitch always has a little something for the new-ball bowlers but then settles down to be firmly in favor of the batsmen. We should enjoy an even contest.
Both teams have a bowling attack that is vulnerable and looks a bit short on quality. This is why the presence of three frontline quality batsmen in the Auckland Aces makes them favorites to win this match.
Bet on the Auckland Aces to win.
