For the majority of the recent times, Wellington Firebirds have not been able to play to their potential but here in this tournament, they have finally looked like hitting the golden note. They have started off on a pretty positive note, winning all of their first three matches, and will be looking to go all the way given the momentum they have.

 

As it currently stands on the points table, the Firebirds are placed at the top spot with 12 points to their name and a net run-rate of 1.494. They have won all three of their matches so far and their net run-rate is evidence enough of their dominating performance. They have not really relied on only a few players but rather have done the job as a team.

 

On paper, Wellington Firebirds have an excellent side with batting as well as bowling covered pretty well. Apart from that, they have a good pool of experienced players and that has helped them get out of pressure situations big time. A lot will depend on those guys in this match as well and if the Firebirds can deliver as they have done so far, getting past them could prove to be a pretty tough task.

Northern Knights

Northern Districts are one of the most star-studded sides in the New Zealand domestic circuit, but only when available full-strength. More often than not, they are not available at their peak and that has been one of the reasons for their lacklustre performance in this season too. While they are languishing in the bottom half of the table in the current edition of the Super Smash, not all is lost yet. A win here will push them right back into the reckoning and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.

 

As it currently stands on the points table, Northern Districts are placed at the fifth spot with four points and a net run-rate of 0.548. Surprisingly, despite staying this low at the ladder, they have a superb net run-rate, which emphasizes that they have not been as bad as their position on the ladder shows. A win will possibly push them to the second spot and that is exactly what they will be after.

 

Despite missing a couple of their key players to national duty, Northern Districts have done a pretty good side on paper. They have all the resources to turn things around but cannot afford missed chances against a side as strong as Wellington Firebirds. If they can take care of that, getting past them would certainly be a massive challenge.
