About the Match
West Indies suffered a humiliating defeat in the first ODI as they were blown away by Rashid Khan and Afghanistan. There is very little turnaround time in this series and a 3 match series does not leave any room for error in general. Can the West Indies turn up in this second game or will Afghanistan wrap up a famous series victory?
The glaring error in the last match from the West Indies team was their entire batting effort, however, we believe the problem started when the West Indies ignored conditions and selected a team with 4 fast bowlers. The idea was to probably bounce out Afghanistan since that ploy had proved to be so successful in the T20 series but it backfired spectacularly in the first ODI game.
The Afghans managed to reach a respectable 212 on the back of 81 from Javed Ahmadi and an excellent cameo late in the innings from Gulabdin naib.
That total was always going to be difficult after an extremely sedate start that set up the platform for Rashid Khan. West Indies will have to rethink their team composition and possibly play Devendra Bishoo in place of one of the pacers while also ensuring that their batsmen show more intent with the new ball.
The fact of the matter is that the absence of their top players has left the West Indies very vulnerable especially in home conditions that favor the away team more!
The West Indies has a tough time ahead of them but they must remember that they have just dominated Afghanistan in three T20 matches, albeit with a different set of players.
No one gave the Afghans much of a chance coming into the first match but their batsmen put up a much-improved show that led to their resurgence. The Afghan bowling was never in question and led by the prodogial Rashid Khan, they made short work of the West Indies batting.
For this match though Afghanistan can expect a much tougher challenge as the West Indies is going to come at them better prepared and with more intent.
We think that Afghanistan is much more vulnerable if they chase and so winning the toss and batting first on these slow, sluggish pitches is going to be crucial.
Rahamt Shah only scored 17 in the first match but looked very good in the middle and we think he may be the batsman to watch out for in this match alongside the hero of the first match, bwteeenJaved Ahmadi.
This is a fanatastic opportunity for Afghanistan to move up in the ODI rankings and push West Indies into an abyss unlike their cricket has ever seen.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch is going to be slow, low and friendly to spinners while the threat of rain is always present in these islands. The forecast suggests we should be able to get a full match in though.
The odds actually seem to be stacked against the West Indies at this moment, however, it will be difficult for Rashid Khan to replicate his performance from the first ODI. The difference between the two teams is not much if we take his performance out.
We think the West Indies will come back strongly to win this one and equalize the series
