WI vs AUS Match Prediction - Jul 10, 2021

Australia managed to lose the first T20 against West Indies after having dominated the majority of the match. It was a poor performance from a team that is clearly coming off a long break. The West Indies played the opening match without Kieron Pollard, their best player, and got away with some ordinary cricket.

Both teams need to improve quickly and we think that is what we will see in this match.

There are just a few hours between the two matches and it will be interesting how some of the elder West Indies players hold up.

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for West Indies vs Australia 2nd T20 2021. The match is going to be played at the Darren Sammy Stadium, Gros Islet, St. Lucia on the 10th of July 2021.

WI vs AUS Team Previews

West Indies

Evin Lewis got out early and Chris Gayle found it tough to get started in the first match. As a result, West Indies struggled to get any momentum in the early part of the inning. With Lewis in good form against South Africa, we don’t think that is going to be much of a problem too often.

However, Chris Gayle has now been short of runs for quite a few matches and the West Indies management would be getting a bit nervous. Without Kieron Pollard, the West Indies batting is a bit wobbly especially because Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran have been short of runs as well.

Andre Russell scored his first evert T20 fifty in the previous match and also picked up a wicket. His fitness remains crucial to the West Indian hopes in this match and in the T20 World Cup to follow.

There is a chance that Pollard will be available for this match but we will only know for sure at the toss.

Obed McCoy has been the best bowler for the West Indies by far. His mix of slower balls is not easy to pick and he could be a great choice to be the top wicket-taker in this match as well. Haydon Walsh and Dwayne Bravo also bowled very well and Fabian Allen was effective in the powerplay as well.

The second seamer slot remains the only one for concern.

Australia

Australia could have won this match on more than a couple of occasions but they just kept playing some mindless cricket. Josh Hazelwood was brilliant with the ball as he picked up three wickets for just 12 runs.

Mitchell Marsh also showed a good understanding of the conditions and bowled a lot of cutters. Mitchell Starc came in for a lot of punishment at the hands of Russell and looked quite ineffective with the new ball as well.

With Ashton Agar, Adam Zampa, and Dan Christian, Australia has a decent bowling attack but not a great one by any means.

The batting effort for Australia was comedic and tragic in equal parts. Matthew Wade slogged his way to 33 before getting caught in the deep off a very good shot. Moises Henriques started with two sixes off his first two balls and then got out tamely to the spinner.

The asking rate was under 5 at a time when the batsmen kept hitting the ball in the air and getting out. In the end, Australia was 18 runs short when it was bowled out. Australia’s batting is certainly better than what we saw and you can expect a better show in the matches to come.

Ben McDermott is quite susceptible to spin and slotting in Ashton Turner might be a better option.

WI vs AUS Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to bowl first although that does not seem to be a very big advantage at this point in time.

Pitch and Conditions

The conditions in St. Lucia are expected to be a bit wet on match day. There is a fair bit of rain around and we could have a situation in which the number of overs has to be drastically reduced.

The pitch was flat but definitely on the slower side and that is not going to change. There was a bit of bounce that the fast-bowlers were able to use to their advantage.

WI vs AUS Betting Tips

West Indies won the first match without actually playing to its best and that must worry the Australians. Also, the power game of the West Indian batter is going to be hard to match particularly if the match gets reduced in length.

We are going to back the home team in this one.

Australia has a good set of power-hitters but what West Indies brings to the table is just something else. It is very difficult to see the visitors out-hit the home team. We are very comfortable recommending the West Indies at the rate being offered.

Both teams had players that got past fifty in the previous match but could not go on. The surface seems to be good for batting but becomes more difficult when the ball gets older. There is a good chance that you can win this bet as players could get out even after getting set in order to increase the tempo.
