About the Match
West Indies and India are about to face off in the third match of the 5 match series that India is leading 1-0. If the West Indies are to have any hope of winning this series, they need to win this match. India, on the other hand, has returned to making runs with ease proving that the collapse against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy was a blip.
The West Indies came into this series with low expectations and the first two matches have shown that they need to do a lot better if they are to have any chance of registering a win in this series. While their bowling was able to restrict the Indian batsmen in the first incomplete ODI, the second ODI saw India put over 300 in a rain-affected game with ease.
None of the bowlers have threatened the Indian batsmen so far and the wickets have fallen only in the pursuit of quick runs.
Surprisingly, the two changes made to the squad have been batsmen and so it is a clear indication that the same bowling attack will be persevered with. We think that the West Indies need to come up with a different strategy because out-batting India on these flat wickets is going to be very difficult for them.
Kyle Hope, brother of Shai Hope and Sunil Ambris have been included into the squad in place of Kieron Powell and Jonathan Carter. We think that Kyle Hope is all but certain to make his debut in this match.
West Indies have a bowling line up that can dry up runs but need a few wicket early to put the Indian middle order under pressure. The batsmen will also need to do a better job facing up to the wrist spin challenge from Kuldeep Yadav.
Indian cricket returned to status quo as the top order continues to score runs with ease and set up the match for their bowlers. While these victories are sure to be welcomed there will be gnawing concerns about the lack of opportunities their middle order is getting. Yuvraj Singh has two low scores now and the pressure on him will be building especially as Rishabh Pant sits on the sidelines waiting for his turn.
MS Dhoni has also got very few opportunities to make big runs but at least contributed whenever he has come in.
As far as the top order goes, Rahane, Dhawan, and Kohli are all feasting on a diet of slow, non-threatening medium pace bowlers while enjoying the freebies that Devendra Bishoo continue to offer with alarming regularity.
The bowling attack is also looking in good touch although Ashwin will definitely want to make more of an impact. He was out-bowled by Kuldeep Yadav in the first match and will need to step it up if he is to be India’s first choice spinner in this format of the game.
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar was exception up front and will be looking for another rich haul against a new-look West Indian top-order while Hardik Pandya too continues to improve as seam bowling all-rounder.
Pitch and conditions
The series moves to North Sound where the pitch is expected to be flat and absolutely devoid of any help to the bowlers. It is also a low surface and that can mean some slow cricket is in store. The West Indies bowlers will want to bowl tight lines and frustrate the Indian batsmen that like the ball coming on to the bat otherwise they are in for another leather hunt.
The weather predicted for the match seems to be good with clear skies on the horizon.
India has hit cruise mode and it will be very difficult for the West Indies to stop them. India to win
