Another game another close match. The ongoing series between South Africa and West Indies is proving to be a humdinger of a battle. After a close win in the second match, South Africa again managed to keep West Indies from a win. The Proteas now have a chance to get that elusive silverware and getting that against the world champions could be a boost as big as any right before ICC World T20.
With the series on the line, the two teams will meet to play the fourth match of the series on 1st July 2021 at National Cricket Stadium, St George's, Granada. We have seen exciting cricket in the series so far and this high-stakes encounter promises to be nothing less. A cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.
West Indies were the favorites, to begin with, but make no mistake, they still are. However, they need to perform to their potential to turn results in their favor. In the two matches gone so far, their bowlers have been pretty consistent, but the batsmen have blown hot and cold.
We saw the likes of Ewin Lewis and Chris Gayle take Proteas' bowlers apart in the opening match, but we haven't seen that kind of dominating performance from the Windies' batsmen ever since. That, however, certainly comes up as a big surprise. West Indies have a batting lineup that can challenge even the best in the business bowlers, but the execution or lack thereof has been appalling.
Major disappointments for the hosts have been the performances of Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran, who both have looked far from their best. Besides, the position of Andre Russell looks unclear, and utilizing him properly will be a challenge yet again.
On paper and as per the performances in the series done so far, West Indies have done well, but have lacked that wee bit of spark that a team needs to win the crunch moments. If they can hold their nerves in the upcoming match, beating them is going to be difficult.
Evin Lewis, LMP Simmons, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Andre Russell, F Allen, Dwayne Bravo, Obed McCoy, FH Edwards.
Temba Bavuma was criticized heavily for his captaincy after the opening match of the series but has done a remarkable job in the last two games. Not only he has contributed brilliantly with the bat, but he has also made some inspiration changes in the field, as far as picking the right bowlers for the right moments is concerned.
South Africa made a couple of unanticipated changes in the last match and while the changes, in particular, didn't help, those changes certainly did add to the balance. The Proteas now appear to be a better-balanced side than they looked when the series started. With the momentum they have, they'll be looking to take an unassailable lead in the series by posting a win here.
They are still struggling with their combinations, but the way they have delivered has been a commendable job. If they can get the best out of the squad they have, they are more than capable of beating this Windies unit.
Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Temba Bavuma, Aiden Markram, RVD Dussen, David Miller, George Linde, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Tabraiz Shamsi, Lungi Ngidi.
West Indies were favorites when the series started and the series lead for the Proteas has certainly put the series nicely in balance. While South Africa have the confidence and momentum, West indies have a side that is tailor-made for T20s. Besides, West Indies have the home advantage, but we don't think that is going to make too much of a difference. Keeping all that into consideration, we believe West Indies have a slight edge, largely because of their heavy batting unit. We are backing West Indies to win this all-important game to keep the series alive and in balance.
