2021 is a T20 World Cup year and we have one scheduled in 2022 as well. This makes every T20 international series leading up these events important and something that every team is going to take seriously.
West Indies vs Sri Lanka 2021 is no different, and even though there have been some comical mistakes made by both teams leading to the absence of the Sri Lankan captain and some leading West Indian cricketer, players like Chris Gayle have left the PSL and come back for this series.
The matches are being played in Antigua on a ground where the dimensions are quite skewed. There will be a pretty short boundary on one side to attack for the batsmen but the strong wind is also another factor to consider.
There are just three T20’s to compete in and so getting off to a winning start is going to be very important.
West Indies vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 2021 is going to be played at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua on the 3rd of March 2021.
Kieron Pollard is leading the West Indies cricket T20 team and has been doing so for a fair bit of time now. He has made West Indies cricket his first priority and it is good to see. He could have earned a lot more by pursuing the PSL or other T20 competitions at this time but he did not do so.
The fact that he is probably the most dangerous batsman in T20 cricket right now is easy for everyone to see. He leads a very strong batting lineup that will probably have Lendl Simmons and Evin Lewis opening the batting, Chris Gayle at three, Nicholas Pooran at four, and a flexible middle-order.
Kieron Pollard, Rovman Powell, Fabian Allen, Jason Holder, and Dwayne Bravo could all find a place in the playing eleven. This gives the West Indies one of the deepest and the most powerful batting lineups in the world.
We believe Chris Gayle’s effectiveness at number 3 will make the side a real force to contend with while Nicholas Pooran and Kieron Pollard add a real punch whenever they get the opportunity.
Fidel Edwards and Obed McCoy could round out the lineup for the West Indies in the first match.
There are multiple bowling options, world-class all-rounders, and genuine six-hitting prowess in the entire lineup. Add to that home advantage, and you have a number of things pointing towards the West Indies.
LMP Simmons, Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, F Allen, Dwayne Bravo, Jason Holder, Kevin Sinclair, Obed McCoy, FH Edwards.
Sri Lankan cricket does confusion very well these days! They lost their bowling coach two days after appointing him, their captain did not make the flight after losing his passport, and there is confusion about who should lead the side in his absence.
As we understand it, Angelo Matthews is going to lead the T20 team after Dasun Shanaka’s unforeseen absence from the series. He is going to have his hands full trying to get the best out of the Sri Lankan squad.
There are a number of inexperienced players including a couple that is going to be making their debut. Pathum Nissanka and Ramesh Mendis are both a part of the batting lineup as Sri Lanka looks to overhaul and move away from some underperforming incumbents.
Diumuth Karunaratne, Oshada Fernando, Danushka Gunathilaka, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Niroshan Dickwella, and Thisara Perera should get the first preference for the opening match, though.
There are a number of excellent spin-bowling options in the squad. Wanindu Hasaranga and Lakshan Sandakan could start but Akila Dananjaya is back in the squad and in contention as well.
Suranga Lakmal and Dushmanth Chameera are the likely fast bowlers that Sri Lanka will start with.
We would love for Sri Lanka to experiment a little and maybe give someone like Kamindu Mendis a chance or take a punt with one of the lesser-known batsmen. The Sri Lankan team is a strong batting team but it feels as if they have stagnated in recent years.
Also, the bowling is going to be a huge concern against the strong West Indian lineup.
Angelo Mathews, Danushka Gunathilaka, Niroshan Dickwella, Pathum Nissanka, Dinesh Chandimal, Ashen Bandara, Thisara Perera, Wanidu Hasaranga, Akila Dananjaya, PVD Chameera, Nuwan Pradeep.
This is the first men’s international cricket match that is going to be played at Coolidge. Teams will know, however, that the ground has a very short side that is going to be difficult to defend and so we expect the team that wins the toss to want to field first.
It may end up being a significant advantage.

The conditions in Antigua are very good for cricket. The temperatures are expected to be comfortable and there is no rain expected. The pitch should be flat and good for batting. There are going to be plenty of sixes hit in this match and we think 200 can easily be scored at this venue.
We just hope the surface is not too low or slow as can sometimes be the case in the West Indies.
Here are some interesting stats for you to think about. This is the first T20 series between West Indies and Sri Lanka in the Caribbean. West Indies has drawn one series 1-1 and won the other 2-0 (most recent) against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.
Since 2014, there have been five T20 matches played between West Indies and Sri Lanka with four of them being won by the West Indies (the most recent four).
With a stronger batting lineup, a more versatile bowling lineup, and the advantage of home conditions, we are going to back the West Indies to win again.
Bet on West Indies to win.
It is difficult to find too many high-value bets to recommend for this match, however, this is a good one in our opinion. There are just too many six-hitters in the West Indies lineup for them to worry or slow down. They just keep on coming hard at you. With Gayle, Pollard, Pooran and so many more, we think this bet is almost a sure thing.
This is a high-risk high-reward play. Not too many international centuries are hit in T20 cricket but this match has an in-form Chris Gayle, the man with the most T20 centuries on the planet. The small boundaries could allow him or anyone else in this match to really make a massive score.
Worth the risk for sure.
