Sri Lanka fought back and won the second T20 international against the West Indies to level the series 1-1. We now have a mouth-watering final match to look forward to as both teams try and get their balance right.
We saw Sri Lanka really lean into its strength and add another spinner to the lineup. A couple of its youngsters are looking pretty impressive and the team is playing some excellent T20 cricket. The West Indies team will not want to look back at this match much. Not only did it let go of several catching chances but it also did not execute any of its disciplines well.
A couple of changes may be required for the West Indies to really maximize all the resources at its disposal.
West Indies vs Sri Lanka 3rd T20 2021 is going to be played at the Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua on the 7th of March 2021.
It will be concerning to the West Indian supporters that their team has lost its top-6 batters for around a hundred runs in both matches. While Kieron Pollard was able to rescue them in the first match, the second one did not go down that way.
West Indies follows a very aggressive form of cricket where every player seems to come out firing. It is always thrilling to watch but the risk of quick wickets falling is always the risk. A bit more nuance is needed to ensure that West Indies is not left scrambling to try and play out the overs.
Still, there is no need to panic. There is just so much batting power and depth in the lineup that a couple of off-days should not make them panic. Players like Evin Lewis and Nicholas Pooran, both excellent against spin, need to take a bit more time so that they can help counter the Sri Lankan spinners.
That is essentially where this match is going to be won or lost. The Sri Lankan spinners vs the West Indian batsmen.
Some improvement is also needed by the West Indian team in the bowling department. Jason Holder was serving up half-volleys, Obed McCoy and Kevin Sinclair were decent without being outstanding, and Fidel Edwards continued to struggle.
The West Indies needs to find a couple of bowlers that will strike early as that has proven to be immensely important in T20 cricket.
LMP Simmons, Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran, Kieron Pollard, Jason Holder, Rovman Powell, F Allen, Dwayne Bravo, Kevin Sinclair, Obed McCoy.
The Sri Lankan cricket team can be proud of the manner in which it fought back after the first T20. We like the look of Pathum Nissanka. He has scored runs in both the matches and reminds us a bit like Kaluwitharana with the short stature and free flow of the bat.
With him and Danushka Gunathilaka in good form, Sri Lanka can hope for another good start to their inning. The problem comes after these two. In the previous match, Sri Lanka was going along at nearly ten runs an over before the first wicket fell, after which was a period of 8.3 overs in which not a single boundary was hit and plenty of wickets were lost.
Sri Lanka was on course for 180-200 minimum but eventually struggled to reach 160.
Niroshan Dickwella is batting too low down the order and is being wasted. Overall, the Sri Lankan batting is a big concern.
Their spinners, though, are excellent. Wanindu Hasaranga has an excellent googly with which he attacks the stumps and looks for LBW decisions. With Akila Dananjaya and Lakshan Sandakan also in playing eleven, Sri Lanka can attack with spin at all stages of the game.
Sri Lanka is gambling a bit because it knows its spinners can be expensive on off-days but it is backing them to get wickets. As we mentioned earlier, their performance will decide the outcome of the game.
Dushmanth Chameera also had a good game but Thisara Perera was too expensive and so Sri Lanka may be tempted to bring back Nuwan Pradeep for this match.
Angelo Mathews, Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Niroshan Dickwella, Dinesh Chandimal, Ashen Bandara, Thisara Perera, Wanidu Hasaranga, Akila Dananjaya, PVD Chameera, Lakshan Sandakan.
It appears as if Sri Lanka prefers batting first and then defending with its spinners while the West Indies is backing its batsmen to chase down any score on the board. The toss may not matter much if this continues to be the way both teams strategize.

The conditions in Antigua have been excellent for cricket. There is no risk of rain and so we should not have any interruptions. We don’t think the pitch is going to change much. It has been good for batting with a little bit of help for the spinners. The straight boundaries are pretty small as well and that allows the six-hitters to always be in the game.
We think a score of around 170 is the minimum teams need to aim for batting first.
Sri Lanka cannot be taken lightly. It has unearthed a very good batsman in Pathum Nissanks and its spinners have troubled the West Indian batsmen in both matches. However, they do lack a bit in middle-order strength as well as the pace bowling department.
The West Indies has more six-hitting power and we believe that Kieron Pollard is the most dangerous batsman in this format right now. Nicholas Pooran is also due for some runs. All things considered, the home team should be able to edge this one.
Bet on the West Indies to win.
Our Favorite Bets
West Indies Total Runs 1st to 10th Over - Over 81.5 ($1.80) (Betway)
We have seen the West Indies score nearly 100 runs in the first six overs in this series already. We know they are going to come hard at the Sri Lankans in this next match and the best part of that they are not going to stop just because they lose a few wickets. We love this bet because it is going to take just one batsman to get stuck into the bowling and win you a lot of money!
Pathum Nissanka Total Runs - Over 17.5 ($1.83) (Betway)
This is a very attractive bet considering the form that Nissanks has shown in these two matches already. he is capable of scoring runs quickly, bats at the top of the order, and seems to be very comfortable at this level of cricket. We are happy to back him to get more run in this next match as well.
