West Indies Women

The lesser that is said about the performance of the West Indies Women’s team in this tour, the better it is. While England Women was expected to perform well, no one expected such a meek surrender from the hosts.

The bowlers had set up the last match nicely, restricting the visitors to a par score of 131. Sheneta Grimmod picked up the wickets of Dunkley, Bouchier, and Knight in the same over and restricted England to a gettable total.

However, the batting let them down for the third consecutive time as the team once again faltered while chasing.

Hayley Matthews has by far been the best performer for West Indies in this series. She has scored 66 runs, including knocks of 25 and 23 runs, as well as picked up 5 wickets too. Aaliyah Alleyne is having a forgettable outing in this series as she has managed just 21 runs from her 4 innings.

Rashada Williams has been a decent batter at the number-3 spot. However, the middle order has failed and collapsed many times which is one of the main reasons for the hosts’ poor performance. 

England Women

In a year of highs and lows, the England Women’s team is ending 2022 on a strong note. They defeated the West Indies Women by 3-0 in the ODI series and are well on track to give yet another whitewash in the T20s.

Sophia Dunkley has been excellent throughout the series and is the top-scorer for the tournament with 147 runs in 4 innings. In the last match, England Women had a steady start thanks to a solid 35 by Dunkley. However, they lost 3 quick wickets in the 11th over and the famed batting line-up was looking a bit shaky. At one stage, England Women were 86-7 and looked on track for being bowled out before the 20 overs.

However, Charlotte Dean and Katherine Brunt put up 45 runs for the 8th wicket to take England to a respectable total of 131. Lauren Bell bowled an excellent spell of 12-4 to rattle the host, while the spin duo of Charlotte Dean and Sophie Ecclestone picked up 2 wickets each to ensure that West Indies Women had no chance of coming close to the target.

Dean is now the highest wicket-taker on this tour with 16 wickets, closely followed by Bell who has taken 14. The team’s performance will act as a confidence booster ahead of the T20 World Cup scheduled to begin in February.
