The Indian women won the ODI series against the West Indies women pretty comfortably in the end, even though they lost the first match. Now, the action shifts to the T20 leg of the series which is going to be more closely contested since it is the format that West Indies women are more adept at.
India has made a lot of strides in this format and is not a team that is to be taken lightly. Can the home team strike a blow against India and win this series or will the India women’s team end up victorious here as well? Let’s find out.
West Indies Women vs India Women 1st T20 2019 is going to be played at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St. Lucia on the 9th of November 2019.
Some important players retiring from the West Indian women’s team has left it struggling to look for replacements and it would be fair to say that the West Indian women’s team is not the force it once was. That being so, T20 is still the format that the Caribbean favors the most.
Stafanie Taylor, Hayley Matthews, and Natasha McLean are some of the most feared T20 players going around at the moment. The onus is going to be on Stafanie Taylor and Hayley Matthews to strike it big with the bat and then follow it up with some disciplined efforts with the ball.
Some other experienced players like Stacy-Ann King, Anisa Mohammad, and Afy Fletcher will be hoping to make an impact in this series as well.
This West Indies side lacks experience once you get past the frontline two or three players and could struggle under pressure. The bowling also seems to be a particularly weak aspect of this team.
Anisa Mohammed, Shemaine Campbelle, Stacy-Ann King, Kyshona Knight, Chedean Nation, Natasha McLean, Afy Fletcher, Hayley Matthews, Aaliyah Alleyne, Chinelle Henry, Shakera Selman.
Harmanpreet Kaur is leading a very strong team into the T20 series and nothing less than a win is going to satisfy her. There are plenty of players that can play at a high strike rate starting with Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur, and Veda Krishnamurthy.
Smriti Mandhana is in excellent form after striking it big in the third ODI and helping India to a series win. She and Harmanpreet Kaur are going to be the mainstays of the Indian batting effort.
The bowling is going to revolve around the spinners, the likes of which are hard to find in West Indian cricket. Poonam Yadav and Radha Yadav have played a central role in the rise of the Indan women’s cricket team.
Both of them are given the ball at crucial times by Harmanpreet Kaur and they can be expected to serve in attacking wicket-taking roles during this series as well.
There is better depth in every single aspect of the game as well as more experience in the Indian squad when compared to the West Indies.
Taniya Bhatia, Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Veda Krishnamurthy, Harmanpreet Kaur, Deepti Sharma, Shikha Pandey, Pooja Vastrakar, Poonam Yadav, Radha Yadav.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first

There is a 30% chance of showers around the match time and so we could have a few interruptions. The pitch at the Darren Sammy Stadium is excellent for batting and should provide a good amount of pace for the batters to work with. The outfield may end up being a bit slow due to the rain that is around the region.
We think that the Indian women have the upper hand in this match. Their bowling is far better than the West Indies and they have a deeper batting lineup as well.
Bet on India women to win.
