There couldn't have been a better time for the series between England and Australia to get over as most of the English players are now available to participate in Vitality T20 Blast. However, with quarter-final spots already sealed, the return of English players will be of little significance for the teams who are no longer in contention to progress. Two such teams - Glamorgan and Worcestershire are set to take on each other in a match that will have no impact whatsoever on the stands. Having said that, both sides would want to finish their campaign on a high and are expected to come out hard in this match. The match is set to be played at New Road, Worcester, on Sunday, 20th September 2020.
It was surprising to see Worcestershire, the 2018 title-winners and the 2019 runners-up, bow out of the competition without putting up a fight. They are currently placed at the bottom of the Central Group points table and unless they register a huge win in this match, the position will be theirs. They have two wins and six losses to their name in the tournament so far with a net run-rate of -0.828.
With a win over Northamptonshire Steelbacks earlier this week, it seemed that Worcestershire would script a comeback, but thanks to a loss in their subsequent match, they are set to finish at the bottom. They are coming off a 16-run defeat at the hands of Birmingham Bears, who too have had a middling tournament so far.
After being put out to field in the previous match by the Bears, Worcestershire Rapids got off to a poor start as Bears amassed 64 runs within the first eight overs. However, with a sensational spell of tight bowling, Rapids hit back hard at Bears, giving away just six runs off the next 11 deliveries and picking up three wickets in the process. However, the failure to pick up further wickets thereafter probably cost them the match as Birmingham Bears still managed to post a towering total on the board.
It was always going to be difficult to chase down a total of 179 runs on a difficult wicket and it proved no different. Worcestershire Rapids showed no positive signs after Jack Haynes got dismissed. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and even though they always had the required run-rate under control, the lack of partnerships cost them the match. They needed to score 43 runs off the last 28 deliveries, but lost Ed Barnard, Brett D'Oliveira, and Daryl Mitchell in quick succession to eventually finish 16 runs behind the Bears' total.
Moeen Ali played a vital role for Worcestershire Rapids in both of the last two seasons and his absence was really felt. With IPL set to begin on Saturday, Moeen Ali is still unavailable, and middle-order woes are likely to continue for the Rapids. Given that, the Rapids will have to play out of their skins to defeat Glamorgan who are coming off a superb win.
Jack Haynes, Hamish Rutherford, Jake Libby, Ben Cox, Ross Whiteley, Ed Barnard, Daryl Mitchell, Adam Finch, Patrick Brown, Charlie Morris, Brett D Oliveira.
A brilliant knock from Andrew Balbirnie - a sight that Glamorgan supporters were so patiently waiting for as finally there to see as Glamorgan cruised past Glamorgan in their previous match. While the result of that match had little impact on Glamorgan's fortunes, it would certainly have imbibed a lot of confidence among the team.
Currently, Glamorgan are at the second spot from the bottom and have a chance to finish at the third spot, but given their low net run-rate, the chances for them to qualify for the next round are next to zero. Glamorgan have seven points to their name with a net run-rate of -0.395.
Glamorgan's last win was all about Andy Balbirinie's innings as he single-handedly helped Glamorgan post a tall total against Gloucestershire. Along with Andrew Balbirnie's innings, the knocks of David Llyond and Chris Cooke proved to be useful in propelling Glamorgan to a total of 188. Apparently, the changes Glamorgan made for their match against Gloucestershire, replacing Owen Morgan, Marchant de Lange, and Callum Taylor with Kiran Carlson, Graham Wagg, and Dan Douthwaite respectively, seemed to work for them.
Glamorgan's performance with the ball wasn't as rosy, to begin with, but excellent death overs bowling allowed them to eventually emerge on top. Timm van der Gugten, Graham Wagg, and Prem Sisodiya shared six wickets between them with Wagg leading the pack. Glamorgan restricted Gloucestershire for 171 runs, winning the match by 17 runs.
David Lloyd, Nicholas Selman, Kiran Carlson, Andy Balbirnie, Chris Cooke, Daniel Douthwaite, Graham Wagg, Andrew Salter, Ruaidhri Smith, Timm van der Gugten, Prem Sisodiya.

Both sides are already done with their campaign and have no chances to progress further. We could see both sides experimenting a bit with the selection or approach to the game. Having said that, they both are going to be right up there as far as intensity is concerned. Glamorgan will be pumped with their win over Gloucestershire and will be looking to end their campaign on a high. Considering that they are an overall better team as compared to Worcestershire Rapids, betting on a Glamorgan win should be the way to go in this upcoming contest.
