After breaking for a week to accommodate County Championship in the calendar, Vitality T20 Blast resumes on 9th July 2021. We have many matches to be played on the day and each of those matches can have a telling impact on the eventual standing on the ladder. North Group points table is in a pretty delicate state and the result of the upcoming match between Worcestershire Rapids and Birmingham Bears could make it even more interesting.

The match between the two sides is to be played on the evening of Friday, 9th July 2021 at New Road, Worcester. Both sides are still very much in contention to qualify for the playoffs and the result of this match may govern their fortunes. There is a lot at stake in this match and both these sides are expected to come hard at each other. A cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards.

WOR vs WRW Team Previews

Worcestershire

Placed third in the North Group points table, Worcestershire Rapids look all set to qualify for the next round. However, for that to happen, they would need to win at least a couple of their remaining three matches, making the upcoming match of vital importance. They have been in decent form of late and the likely return of Moeen Ali to the fold should really boost their confidence.

The Rapids have won three out of their last four matches and have momentum on their side. The one match they were defeated in was against Lancashire, who were a vastly superior side on that day, on all accounts. In their most recent outing, the Rapids defeated Falcons quite convincingly and will be looking to put a similar performance in the upcoming match as well.

Digging in about form and on-paper strength, Brett D'Oliveira is clearly the man the Rapids will be heavily relying upon. He has not only scored 292 runs in the season but is also coming off a match-winning knock of 43 in the previous. Apart from him, the likes of Ben Cox, Riki Wessels, and Jake Libby have all done pretty well of late. Batting looks settled for Worcestershire Rapids, at least at the moment.

As the tournament has progressed, the spinners have come into action and that is where Ish Sodhi has made the difference for the Rapids. He has been in terrific form of late and will be the key bowler for the Rapids on the surface that is expected to assist spinners. With Charlie Morris and Ben Dwarshius doing well too, Worcestershire Rapids seem to be having all their bases covered. If they can perform to their on-paper potential, beating them is going to be mighty difficult.

Worcestershire Playing 11

Riki Wessels, Brett D Oliveira, Jake Libby, Daryl Mitchell, Ben Cox, Ross Whiteley, Ed Barnard, Ben Dwarshuis, Ish Sodhi, Dillon Pennington, Charlie Morris.

Birmingham Bears

Birmingham Bears are currently placed fifth on the points table, but they aren't that far away from qualification. A win here will push them to the top of the third spot on the ladder and that will undoubtedly be a better position than they are currently at. They have so far won five matches and lost five, aggregating 11 points with a net run-rate of 0.099.

Form-wise, Birmingham Bears are coming into this match on the back of a poor run. From their last five matches, they have won just one. They were even poorer in their most recent outing, in which they were defeated by Nottinghamshire Outlaws by a massive margin. Batting first, they were dismantled completely for a total of 63, about which their bowlers could do nothing to defend.

The Bears will be further hampered as their experienced bowler in Danny Briggs will not be available in this match owing to national duty. In his absence, the onus will be on Jake Lintott, who has picked up 12 wickets at a decent economy rate of 7 in the tournament so far. Apart from him, Carlos Brathwaite has done well for the Bears and will be a key figure for the Bears to do well here.

Birmingham seem a little too over-reliant on Sam Hain to do the bulk of the scoring. Hain has been in decent form and has scored 293 runs in the tournament so far. Apart from him, however, the Bears' batting has lacked consistency and that could be an issue in this upcoming match. All in all, Birmingham Bears have a lot to play for and will need to put in their everything to get the result in their favor. If they can do that, Worcestershire Rapids will have their work cut out.

Birmingham Bears Playing 11

Ed Pollock, Adam Hose, Will Rhodes, Sam Hain, Robert Yates, Matthew Lamb, Michael Burgess, Jacob Bethell, Jake Lintott, Craig Miles, Ryan Sidebottom.

WOR vs WRW Betting Tips

We are into the business end of the league stage and each match hereon will have a massive impact on determining the quarter-finalists. The result of this upcoming match will likely govern who gets to qualify for the playoffs first. Comparing the two teams on paper and on other above-stated accounts, Worcestershire Rapids appear to be better-placed to emerge on top in the upcoming encounter.
