We are just about beginning to get into the end of the league stage in the CSA Provincial One Day Challenge 2022/23 and the line of separation between the top and the bottom sides is beginning to emerge. Having said that, the race to qualify is going to be pretty stiff especially with teams finally finding their combination right.

Up next in the tournament, we have Western Province set to take on Lions in what is going to be the deciding match to govern the top of the table occupants. The Lions and Western Province are almost neck and neck and this match could prove to be the differentiator. The match between the two sides is to be played at the Newlands, Cape Town on 18th December 2022.

Western Province were leading the points table for most part of the tournament and have very recently dropped down to the second spot. They are still well ahead in the race to get to the next round but another couple of losses here could send the alarm bells ringing in the dressing room. A win here, however, will push them to the top of the table and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.

As it currently stands on the points table, Western Province are placed second with four wins from a total of five matches played. They have 18 points in total coupled with a pretty good net run-rate of 1.001. Given the way they have played and the side they have on-paper, all they would need to do is to play to their potential and if they can do that, getting past them could prove to be a challenging task.
