WPR vs NWD Match Prediction - Dec 09, 2022

The Western Provinces will take on the North West Dragons in match number 9 this Friday, in the ongoing season of the CSA Provincial One-Day Challenge.

Both the teams are equal in terms of points at this stage, but Western Province holds an edge in terms of a better NRR, and is at the top of the points table, with the Dragons tailing close behind.

WPR vs NWD Team Previews

Western Province

The Western Province team is off to a solid start, winning both its opening matches, played against the Dolphins as well as the Knights.

The opening pair for the Western Province seems to be in solid form, as both, Jonathan Bird and Tony de Zorzi are two of the top run-getters for the team. In the previous game against the Knights, both the batsmen put up a superb opening stand of 203 runs to lead their team to a massive win.

George Linde too played a handy cameo of 70 runs from just 34 deliveries. Yaseen Vallie and Daniel Smith however are yet to strike form and were seen struggling in both the opening matches. The bowling attack, led by Junaid Dawood, has been up to the mark. Dawood has taken 5 wickets so far, while Linde, Burger, and Hendricks have picked up 3 wickets each.

North West Dragons

Just like their opponents, the Dragons too are off to a superb start and are yet to be defeated after playing two matches. Their first match, played against the Warriors, was a close affair as the Dragons scraped through by just 2 runs. But in the very next match, they secured a thumping 109-run win against the Knights.

Lesego Senogwane has been a solid performer for the Dragons at the top of the order and is also the top run-getter for his team. Heino Kuhn played an excellent inning of 96 runs against the Knights. However, the other batsmen, including Wesley Marshall, Mokoena, and van den Bergh have struggled a bit. Delano Potgieter has been a handy all-rounder for the Dragons, scoring a total of 70 runs lower down the order.

He is also the top wicket-taker of this tournament with 6 wickets against his name. He rattled the Knights in the last match, picking up 4 wickets for just 27 runs. Eldred Hawken too has been effective with his quick bowling and has scalped 5 wickets in 2 matches.

WPR vs NWD Toss Prediction

The teams batting first have enjoyed tremendous success at the Newlands cricket ground. Therefore, the captain winning the toss is likely to bat first here.

Pitch and Conditions

The Newlands is one of the few pitches in South Africa that has helped the spinners. While the batsmen will find it easy to play their shots in the first innings, the spinners tend to get some turn as the match progresses. The quicker bowlers are likely to be less effective despite the good bounce. Anything over 250 will be difficult to chase here.

The weather will be cloudy and humid, with plenty of wind. The temperatures will remain around the 20-degree mark.

WPR vs NWD Betting Tips

With both the teams in excellent form, this is an extremely difficult match to call. However, we are going to back the Dragons to win this one. While the opener Senokwane is in good touch, the Dragons also have a couple of excellent all-rounders in the form of Muthusamy and Potgieter within the squad, who can easily change the course of the match.
