The rain has been playing havoc with the Momentum ODI Cup 2019 and a lot of the recent matches have been marred by rain. The Warriors were at the receiving end of DLS calculations as they ended up losing to the Titans while the Knights had to suffer a washout where incessant rain made it impossible to get a result.
Now, the Warriors will be looking to take on the Knights as the tournament draws to a close, The Knights are the only side in the Momentum Cup 2019 that is still looking for a win. The Warriors, on the other hand, have won four out of their six completed matches and are one of the stronger teams that we have seen this season.
The Knights will be hoping for something special to get at least something out of this wretched season of theirs.
It was unfortunate that rain prevented the Warriors from playing a complete match against the Titans. They started slow and were building up their inning but were not really allowed to deliver the final hammer blow. As a result, their DLS adjusted total was not enough to challenge the Titans really.
Now, the Warriors will be quite confident of returning to winning ways against the Knights.
Gihaahn Cloete, JJ Smuts, Colin Ackerman, and Matthew Breetzke make for a pretty decent batting lineup. JJ Smuts is the player that we see as the biggest threat in the upcoming match but even the others have been in good form.
Smuts has the ability to play the bog inning though and is one of the premier domestic South African players in 50 over cricket. He is also experienced enough to have seen most everything that the game can throw at you.
The bowling lineup for the previous match included Andrew Birch, Lutho Sipamala, Glenton Stuurman, JJ Smuts, and Sisanda Mgala. Birch went for plenty of runs in his four overs and was not able to have the impact that we have come to expect of him.
The bowling lineup for the Warriors does not have the biggest names but has been able to be disciplined in most of the games. They should be able to hit back stronger in this match.
Yaseen Vallie, Lesiba Ngoepe, JJT Smuts, Sinethemba Qeshile, Marco Marais, Edward Moore, Thomas Kaber, Andrew Birch, SSB Magala, Lutho Sipamla, BD Walters.
Momentum Cup 2019 has been a shambles for the Knights. They have been at the receiving end of DLS adjustments, have played some poor cricket, and just been generally a run below all the other competitors in the tournament.
We struggle to see how they are going to be able to lift themselves for this game in a full 50 over contest. The Knights would be better served to have the game be reduced as short as possible due to rain because that will bring the two sides closer together and increase the chances of an upset.
Grant Moekena, Andries Gous, Keegan Peterson, Petrus van Biljon, and Rudi Second have not had a good season. This is pretty obvious from the side’s results. There have been a few good performances from the batsmen, though, and that is where the Knights must hope to get their wins from.
Rudi Second made 74 in the previous match and helped his side reach a total of 257. It was a below-par total that was eventually made to look even smaller when the rain came down.
A lack of power hitting in the middle and lower order is holding back the Knights while the lack of consistency from the top-order is not allowing them to get too big totals either.
The bowling for the Knights has some decent names. Merchant de Lange, Ryan McLaren, and Eddie Leie are all very well known names in South African cricket. McLaren may be getting on a bit but de Lange and Leie are still in their prime.
The bowling attack for the Knights has not been able to pull together as a unit this season. They have the potential to pick up some wickets and could surprise the Warriors, though.
We believe Merchant de Lange is going to be the bowler to watch out for the Knights in this encounter.
Patrick Kruger, AGS Gous, Keegan Petersen, PJ van Biljon, RS Second, Grant Mokoena, Ryan McLaren, Eddie Leie, Ottneil Baartman, Mbulelo Budaza, Marchant de Lange.
The side winning the toss is likely to want to field first with all the rain around

The Momentum ODI Cup 2019 match between the Warriors and the Knights is going to be played at Buffalo Park, East London. There is a lot of rain around in East London and we could have a severely reduced match if we have some cricket at all.
There is a very good chance of a no-result due to the weather.
The pitch in Buffalo Park is usually excellent for batting and should make for a high scoring match if the players get a chance to play on it.
We think the rain is going to intervene and make this into a short overs shootout. E suggest waiting until the toss has taken place and then betting on the Knights if they bat second. They have the bowlers to stall the Warriors batting and cause an upset.
Back the Knights to win.
