WRW vs NOR Team Previews
Birmingham Bears
Being once touted as the Test-playing side in the T20 Blast, Birmingham Bears have done well in the recent editions of T20 Blast. They have often made the most of resources available at their hand and the same was the case last year around too as they finished fourth on the ladder and qualified for the knockout round.
From a total of 14 matches played, Warwickshire, popularly known as Birmingham Bears, won seven matches. They were defeated by Kent Spitfires in the quarter-final and will be looking to go at least a step ahead this time around.
With most of their star-performers still available, Birmingham Bears have a settled side. Sam Hain was the top-scorer for them last year and he, in particular, will hold the key for them, at least with the bat. They also have the likes of Paul Stirling, Will Rhodes, Oliver Hannon Dalby, Alex Davies, and Carlos Brathwaite available at their disposal.
On paper, the Bears seem to be having all their bases covered with experience available in both departments. They have an excellent amalgamation of all-rounders and specialists, consequently having an immaculately balanced side. If they are able to play to their on-paper potential in this upcoming match, getting past them could prove to be a very steep climb.
Birmingham Bears Playing 11
PR Stirling, Jacob Bethell, Alex Davies, Sam Hain, Adam Hose, Christopher Benjamin, Carlos Brathwaite, Danny Briggs, Henry Brookes, Jake Lintott, Craig Miles.
Northamptonshire
Unlike Birmingham Bears, Northamptonshire Steelbacks are coming off a forgetful season. Managing to win only 4 games out of 14, they never looked in the competition and finished at the bottom of the ladder. They have made a few changes to their squad this year and will be hoping that the changes bring about a turnaround in their fortunes as well.
The Steelbacks have roped in Chris Lynn and Jimmy Neesham, who both are well capable of making match-winning contributions. Having said that, Jimmy Neesham will be unavailable for them for this upcoming match and that could prove to be a big blow to their plans. As far as the domestic talent is concerned, the Steelbacks have pretty much the same squad that they fielded last year.
Just as was the case last year, a lot will depend on Ricardo Vasconcelos doing well with the bat. He top-scored for them last year, scoring 364 runs in total. He was ably assisted by Rob Keogh, who too could play a significant part in the Steelbacks' campaign this year. On the bowling front, however, they do look a little light with not much experience available.
All in all, Northamptonshire Steelbacks still have some voids in their team, as far as on-paper combination is concerned. The unavailability of Jimmy Neesham hasn't helped their cause either. They will need their experienced players to step up their games in both departments and unless that happens, Northamptonshire Steelbacks might find going a bit tough this time around as well.
Northamptonshire Playing 11
Chris Lynn, Ben Curran, Josh Cobb, Rob Keogh, Saif Zaib, Lewis McManus, Tom Taylor, James Sales, Matthew Kelly, Ben Sanderson, Freddie Heldreich.
