We have witnessed several great contests in the T20 Blast this year already. However, perhaps there was none as momentous as this. The Yorkshire team was struggling to rise from several off-the-field problems with many defeats they had to endure. They were also facing a tough opposition in Lancashire with Jos Butler making a return to the squad. But it was to a Yorkshire’s night all the way. They emerged as winners despite many people not considering them to have any hopes against much stronger opposition in Lancashire.

There was no joy for Joy Butler who failed for one run. These kinds of victories can change the fortunes of a team. Could this be the game that changes the fortunes of Yorkshire on and off the field? Yorkshire has succeeded in winning a couple of games now back-to-back. They defeated Nottinghamshire first and now they have dispatched Lancashire at Headingley. The winless run for Yorkshire appeared to be unbeatable but Dawid Malan came into his own with 2 match-winning performances on the trot.

Malan first scored 95 runs at Trent Bridge and then followed it up with this 83-run effort against Lancashire from 50 balls. Although Yorkshire scored 195 runs for 6 wickets this effort was under par and always within the reach of the solid Lancashire batting line-up. Before the flourish provided by David Malan, it was Adam Lyth who announced the intentions of Yorkshire batters with 4 boundaries in the first over of Luke Wood. Due to the tennis ball bounce at the Headingley wicket, he looked to play square of the wicket more.  

Derbyshire

The remarkable run of innings by Wayne Madsen in the T20 Blast continued in the team's last encounter against Birmingham Bears. This knock also was responsible for ending the winning streak of Warwickshire in North Group. They were handed a 17-run defeat to the Derbyshire outfit. Madsen has had a great run in the competition and he was going into this game on the back of a hundred and 3 fifties. He was responsible for providing another masterclass scoring 72 runs from 51 balls. Another batter that did a good job was Tom Wood who during the closing stages of the inning hit 39 runs from 19 balls.

These two together scored 79 runs from 41 balls to take the team to a good score. Any hopes the Bears had of reaching the target depended on making a great start. But they quickly slipped to 45 for 4 with Moeen Ali also falling cheaply for 16. Maxwell threatened to make a huge contribution for some time hitting 29 runs from 22 balls before Ed Barnard and Dan Mousley succeeded in adding 49 runs from 30 balls. But this was not the day for the Warwickshire team as they fell short of the target scoring 157 runs for 9 wickets.

Moeen Ali was playing the first game at home for 17 years. He elected to bowl first as it was a sunny evening at the County Ground. After the early wicket of Luis Reece, the prolific Wayne Madsen arrived at the crease. He was immediately into action hitting his first ball for a boundary. Derbyshire ended the powerplay overs with a score of 43 runs on the board for the loss of 1 wicket. Although the Bears managed to get rid of Maxwell early, it was the wicket of Madsen they were looking for. Madsen did provide a difficult caught and bowled opportunity to Mousley when he was on 47.
