ZIM vs NL Match Prediction - Mar 21, 2023

Tournament: Netherlands tour of Zimbabwe, 2023.

Date: March 21, 2023.

Format: One day

Venue: Harare Sports Club, Harare, Zimbabwe.

Time: 0:30

The Netherlands will take on Zimbabwe in a 3-match one-day international series that will start in Zimbabwe later tomorrow. Zim will be keen to take an early lead and establish their dominance over the Netherlands in the 1st match of the ODI series they are playing at home. None of these two teams plays too much one-day international cricket and this will be a terrific opportunity for the teams. Zimbabwe played their last one-day series against Ireland in their backyard. The series ended in a 1-1 draw. The Netherlands on the other hand is coming back to one day format after a gap of 9 months. They lost their last one-day series against Pakistan at home. One significant point to note here is that the Netherlands has lost all their last 15 ODI. They have not managed a win since 2021 and this would have made a huge dent in their psyche. They have struggled with their batting and it will be interesting to see what measures they take to rectify this issue. Zimbabwe has a better batting line-up and they are playing at home.

ZIM vs NL Team Previews

Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwean side is being led by Craig Ervine in the ODI series. They were not too impressive in their last series against the West Indies. They will need a more determined effort from most of their players. They are well versed with the conditions on offer at the Harare venue and they have a good batting line-up. The senior players from the team will have to put their hands up and lead from the front. They will need to guide the youngsters to get an effective performance from them.

Quick and early loss of wickets during their innings has been a continuous problem for the Zimbabwe team management. Innocent Kaia and Wesley Madhevere will have to deliver a decent start to the Zimbabwean innings in this match. Their middle order has some experience and you will get an opportunity to see players of the caliber of Sikandar Raza, Gary Ballance, and the skipper Ervine trying to set up big partnerships. Other important batters such as Clive Madande and Sean Williams will have to lift the scoring rate lower down the middle order.

Zimbabwe is going into this match with a bowling attack that is perfect for the conditions. They will be expecting tight lines and length from the new ball bowlers such as Richard Ngarava and Tendai Chatara. Other bowlers playing on the side such as Blessing Muzarabani and Wellington Masakadza are going into this game with plenty of experience to their credit. They will try desperately to control the opposition's scoring rate. Other support bowlers such as Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza add a lot of depth to this bowling attack.

Zimbabwe Playing 11

Innocent Kaia, Craig Ervine, Wesley Madhevere, Garry Ballance, Sikandar Raza, Ryan Burl, Wellington Masakadza, Clive Madande, Brad Evans, Richard Ngarava, Blessing Muzarabani.

Netherlands

The Netherlands team will be led by Scott Edwards in this game and the series. This team is entering this contest on the back of a terrible record. They have not won a single match in a couple of years. Their batting line-up has been inconsistent at best and the bowling attack lacks the sufficient bite to it. These are all major problems for the Netherlands team. They are up against much stronger opposition in this game. Their team members will need to play positively in the game to have any hopes of dislodging the Zim.

The Netherlands' top order will be in the hands of Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd. These batters playing near the top of the order will have to put up some quick runs on the board for the rest of the batting to do well. The Netherlands' batting order is a decent one but they will need to get some partnerships out of players such as Tom Cooper, Colin Ackermann, and Bas de Leede. There are some big hitters in the squad such as Teja Nidamanuru and Scott Edwards who are capable of using the long handle to good effect to add some quick runs during the death overs.

The Dutch bowling attack will have to stick to their plans for the team to feel confident in this game. Their opening ball bowlers Vivian Kingma and Fred Klaassen will need to get early breakthroughs for their team. Some other bowlers from this bowling attack that bowl in the middle overs are Paul van Meekeren and Tom Cooper. They will need to bowl a decent line in the middle overs when the bowling attack is likely to leak a lot of runs. The team management will also be hoping for tight spells from bowlers such as Nidamanuru and Shariz Ahmed.

ZIM vs NL Toss Prediction

The pitch on offer at the Harare Sports Club ground in Harare is likely to be a slow one. If we get overcast conditions on top of a slow wicket, batters will find it extremely difficult to score runs on the track. This is certainly not a high-scoring ground for one-day internationals. However, most teams have preferred to chase a total on this ground and bowl first after winning the toss.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

As described earlier the wicket on offer at the Harare venue will be a slow one. Most batters will need to play a waiting game on this track. The larger outfield on this venue will also mean that it will not be so easy to hit boundaries and sixes on this ground. Batters will have to keep on rotating the strike on this ground to collect the runs. There will be some early life in the track for the quick bowlers but all-in-all spinners will enjoy the conditions more.

There is some chance of getting a cloud cover during this game in Harare. We expect that the pitch will be difficult to bat on. This fact has been observed in the last few games played at the venue. All batters will need to be careful in their approach and play out the bowling on merit. Any score in the excess of 275 runs will be a good one on this wicket and it will be difficult to chase down this kind of a score.

ZIM vs NL Betting Tips

The Netherlands outfit is going into this game with a horrible record in their recent matches. They have had to endure a series of failures and do not have a good record in ODI cricket. Just some of the players from their team have the right skill and temperament for the format at the international level. Zim on the hand is playing at home and they are coming here with a good middle order. This provides an edge to their batting order. We will bet with Zimbabwe to win this match and take an early lead in the series.
