ZIM vs SL Match Prediction - Jan 27, 2020

Sri Lanka won the first test against Zimbabwe by 10 wickets and will now have a clean-sweep on its mind. Zimbabwe did put up a good fight in the first inning but did not have enough resources to be able to continue putting pressure on the Sri Lankans.

Is there any way that Zimbabwe will be able to stop Sri Lanka from winning this test match? We think a draw is going to be a very creditable result for Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka may look to opt for a few more young faces in this match so that it can develop its bench strength further.

Zimbabwe vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test Match 2020 is going to be played at the Harare Sports Club, Harare starting on the 27th if January 2020.

ZIM vs SL Team Previews

Zimbabwe

The home team started the first test with a very determined batting display that saw them bat 148 overs. That is a large amount to bat and often means that teams will either be able to score enough runs to press for a win or at least play for a draw.

Unfortunately, neither of the things happened for Zimbabwe and that was down to the lack of penetration of its bowlers.

Kyle Jarvis was unable to take a single wicket in the entire Sri Lankan inning and that turned out to be a bit disappointing for the home side. Donald Tripano was also quite poor and will need to raise his game for this next test.

Victor Nayuchi bowled the best among the Zimbabwe bowlers. He was able to keep the runs down for prolonged periods and picked up three wickets as well. Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza picked up five wickets between them but they were relatively cheap wickets at the end of the inning when Sri Lanka was trying to declare.

The batting also needs to be more consistent. After the admirable effort in the first inning, Zimbabwe’s batsmen were not able to take the match into the fourth inning at all. They did stick around for 92 overs but the not enough runs were scored.

Zimbabwe has an experienced middle-order and players like Brendan Taylor, Sikandar Raza, and Sean Williams need to play a more central role in the upcoming test.

Sri Lanka

Angelo Matthews scored his maiden double century in the previous test and laid the foundation of a win. It was his inning that allowed the Sri Lankan bowlers the luxury of bowling out Zimbabwe out twice in the time available because a fourth inning could have made matters tricky.

Sri Lanka fielded a full-strength side and it was good to see them take the match seriously. Mickey Arthur did a similar thing with Pakistan as well and forced his players to get in the habit of winning. We don’t think there are going to be many changes for this second test match either.

Dimutg Karunaratne and Oshada Fernando missed out in the first test and they would like to ensure that does not happen in the second test. The Sri Lankan batting is much stronger than Zimbabwe’s and we don’t see them being bowled out twice against Zimbabwe in this test. Only a rank turner or a surface that is crumbling can cause that to happen.

Sri Lanka’s bowling attack toiled very hard on a surface that had very little help for it. Suranga Lakmal, Lasith Embuldeniya, and Kasun Rajitha were quite incisive although Rajitha did not get the reward he deserved.

One of the things that Sri Lanka will need to be careful about is the workload on its bowlers. The surface is not going to change too much at Harare and we could have another situation where the bowlers need to bowl long spells to try and force the result.

Pitch and Conditions

There is some rain expected to fall on the second and third days of the test match. That could mean a result may be difficult to achieve for either side as we have seen it requires a large number of overs to get the ten wickets.

The pitch is going to be quite slow and flat as it was in the first test. We may see a bit more spin considering the square has had some wear on it but nothing drastic is going to change. Getting a large first inning is going to be essential for both the teams.

ZIM vs SL Betting Tips

We think this match could end in a draw most likely. There is rain expected which is going to take some time out of the match and most of the Zimbabwe senior batsmen have not yet scored some runs in the series. If that happens then bowlers from both sides could really struggle on an unresponsive surface.

Bet on the Draw.
