About the Match
After India’s 3-0 ODI series victory against hosts Zimbabwe, it is time for the two nations to play each other in the 3-match T20 series, with the 1st T20 match scheduled to be held at Harare on 18th June. The men in blue are a confident side with youngsters doing well in all departments of the game; they will grab this opportunity to showcase their talents and help win the shorter format too. Zimbabwe, on the other hand, is riddled with injury issues and must come up with a good strategy to overcome the challenges posed by the visitors here.
Experienced all-rounder batsmen Sean Williams and Craig Ervine are ruled out of the series due to injury and now the hosts have roped in the uncapped off-spinner Tapiwa Mufudza, opening batsman Brian Chari, who did well against Bangladesh a year back, and all-rounder Tinotenda Mutombodzi. The batting line-up will consist of Chamu Chibhabha, who looks well set to continue with his good form with the bat, Elton Chigumbura, Hamilton Masakadza, Peter Moor, Vusi Sibanda, Sikandar Raza and Malcolm Waller.
All-rounders like Neville Madziva, Timycen Maruma, Chigumbura and Raza add depth to the batting line-up as well as bring variations in the bowling attack. The pace bowlers Tendai Chatara, Taurai Muzurabani and Donald Tiripano will leverage their skills to outwit the Indians while spinners Graeme Cremer, Wellington Masakadza, Peter Moor, Mutombodzi, Sikandar Raza and Waller should try to provide quick breakthroughs when needed.
Overall, they have the talent to overcome the gaps caused by the injuries provided they play smart cricket and restrain from giving away wickets easily to the Indian attack.
Dhoni has led this young side to an ODI series victory and is charged up to guide them yet again for another whitewash here in the T20 contests. KL Rahul has proved his mettle in the limited overs format and is a crucial asset in the batting line-up along with others like Karun Nair, Manish Pandey, Ambati Rayudu, who has been consistent with the runs, and Faiz Fazal, who debuted in the last ODI match and will be raring to go here.
All-rounders like Mandeep Singh and Rishi Dhawan can be utilised for their skills and add depth to the bowling attack; spinners Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal have had an excellent run so far and they will be vital to their strategy here against the hosts. Medium pacers Dhawal Kulkarni, Barinder Sran and Jasprit Bumrah did very well in the ODIs and they will be instrumental in stifling the opponents.
The Indian contingent has received a major boost of confidence after the series victory and they will be determined to keep the winning juggernaut going further.
Although Zimbabwe is on the back-foot after losing the ODI series, coping with player forms and injuries, they definitely will put up a tough fight here; however, India with its tremendous experience of excelling in the T20 format, looks better placed to emerge victorious on Saturday
