About the Match
It was almost a repeat of the first T20 match, as Pakistan yet again dominated the hosts and clinched the 2nd T20 to win the series 2-0; Pakistan and Zimbabwe will face off in the 3-match ODI series, with the first ODI scheduled to be held at Harare on 1st Oct. Batting first, Pakistan posted 136 runs, which Zimbabwe failed to chase successfully after a top-order collapse; the visitors won handsomely by 15 runs to lift the trophy. The upcoming ODI series might witness a similar story unless Zimbabwe bounces back and gives a tougher challenge on the field; it needs to be seen if the hosts have learnt their lesson or Pakistan continues with its winning momentum on Thursday.
Panyangara and Jongwe continued with their good bowling skills as they each took 2 wickets in the 2nd T20; Cremer, Utseya, Williams and Chibhabha provided some depth to the attack to restrict Pakistan to 136 runs. However, the top-order batsmen failed again to build strong partnerships and despite a well-made 40 off 36 by Sean Williams and a run-a-ball 36 by Raza, they lost by 15 runs.
Masakdza is yet to shine and Chibhabha must come out all guns blazing if they want to survive; while the middle-order has shown some teeth thanks to Williams and Raza’s run-scoring skills, the youngsters like Mutumbami, Madziva and Muzurabani must shoulder their responsibilities well.
The bowlers are doing well but they must learn to make a dent on the Pakistani batting line-up; Panyangara, Jongwe, Chibhabha, Utseya and Williams are getting wickets regularly but they must up their ante to pressurise the visitors in the upcoming match. Confidence is key for the hosts and they don’t lack in talent; they definitely have the skills to bounce back and put up a better show here.
Sohaib Maqsood and Umar Akmal helped keep the scoreboard ticking in the 2nd T20 match; with help from Rizwan, Malik, ImadWasim and Hafeez at the start, they took the total to 136. The bowlers kept their cool and thanks to Mohammad Irfan, who took 2-25 and Imran Khan, who claimed 2 wickets, they defended the total to win the match. ImadWasim and Tanvir showed consistency with the ball and took a wicket each to stifle the opponents.
They have a good pace attack with bowlers like Mohammad Irfan, Imran Khan, Wahab Riaz and Sohail Tanvir shaping up nicely with their wicket-taking abilities here; captain Afridi with his googly and youngster ImadW asim, who has been taking wickets regularly, and others like Hafeez, Maqsood and Mokhtar Ahmed will definitely bring variety to the attack.
The batsmen must play in a level-headed manner and if they can build strong partnerships, then this team will be a tough one to beat in the upcoming matches. Shehzad is yet to click with the bat while Hafeez, Maqsood, Umar Akmal and other all-rounders are looking good to put up a thunderous performance here.
Zimbabwe is certainly on their back foot at the moment but they can do better in the 50-over format; Zimbabwe has done well in bits and pieces and they were good in ODIs against India in their previous ODI series
, but failed to leave a mark. We believe that Zimbabwe will gain from the T20 and emerge victorious on Thursday
