ENGW vs RSAW Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Nov 16, 2018

The South African women crashed to a heavy defeat the hands of the West Indies and have dented their chances of qualifying for the semis considerably. They are not out of the running yet but this next match against England assumes a must-win status for them.

England is in a better position but its shared point with Sri Lanka could come back to haunt it. England has yet to play the bigger sides in the group and so winning this match is quite important for its ambitions as well.

Both England and South Africa were touted as one of the pre-tournament teams to look out for. With South Africa’s loss to the West Indies, the group has been thrown wide open and that is a good thing for the WorldT20 as a whole.

ENGW vs RSAW Team Previews

England Women

After having to sit out the first match watching the rain fall incessantly, England would have been very glad to have gotten a chance to actually play some cricket against Bangladesh. It was not a match that was expected to test England and it did not end up doing so.

England managed to bowl the Bangladeshi women out for just 76 and then chased down their revised target of 64 from 16 overs with ease.

The task against South Africa is going to much more difficult for England.

South Africa has a very good bowling attack that will come hard at the English batters. Wyatt and Beaumont did not score any runs against Bangladesh and will be hoping to rectify that against South Africa.

Wyatt, in particular, is very important to England’s hopes batting sat the top of the order. She has the ability to score fast and play the big inning. Jones, Sciver, and Knight batting at 3,4, and 5 respectively were able to get some valuable time in the middle.

They ensured England reached the Bangladesh total without any trouble.

It will be interesting to see what kind of approach the English women take against South Africa. We think it is prudent to play out their new bowlers and then attack the next set of bowlers. England will be aware that the South African batting has been very brittle off late and even a par total is likely to put them under pressure.

There are a couple of very capable bowlers that can take advantage of the turmoil in the South African camp right now. Shrubsole and Sciver bowled very well with the new ball but it was Gordon who did the most damage to Bangladesh.

Her left-arm spin is very capable of causing a similar amount of problem to the South Africans as well. Ideally, Gordon will have the middle and lower order of South Africa to attack but she could be given the new ball as well.

England Women Playing 11

South Africa Women

South Africa would be very disappointed at the manner of its loss against the West Indies. South Africa bowled first and had the West Indies in deep trouble from the start. Ismail bowled with fire to take the opening three wickets in her two overs and had the West Indies tottering.

South Africa also managed to take the fourth wicket shortly after and would have taken the West Indies total of 107 on any day.

Ismail with three wickets for just twelve runs from her four overs was the pick of the bowlers. She is going to be the biggest threat to England in the upcoming match as well. Rated as one of the fastest bowlers in women’s cricket, Ismail is in terrific form in this WorldT20 and will be carrying potentially the future of South Africa in this tournament on her shoulders.

Van Niekerk also took two wickets while Kapp was economical. Daniels went for some runs towards the end of the inning but overall, the South African bowling unit is not something that we are worried about.

It is the batting that has been terrible.

South Africa was 48 for 1 in the 11th over before their inning went off the rails. They slipped to 76 all out in the 18th over in an abject display of batting. While the collapse was shocking, it was not entirely unexpected.

The South African batting muscle is concentrated at the top of the order. Lee, Wolvaardt, Kapp, and Niekerk are the four batters that must score the bulk of the runs for South Africa.

There is very little to follow after them and a high-pressure chase can certainly precipitate the kind of collapse we witnessed.

South Africa would also be very disappointed at giving away crucial wickets through run-outs. They were out fielded by the West Indies and eventually ended up losing three wickets to run-outs. The most important among them was van Niekerk.

A shockingly poor performance like this can sap the confidence of the side. It makes the batters unsure of what they are doing and can make them afraid of playing their shots. South Africa needs to ensure they find a way of giving their batters the confidence to go out there and play freely.

Losing this match could be the curtain on South Africa’s WorldT20 campaign so there is no reason to hold back.

Laura Wolvaardt, Lizelle Lee, Marizanne Kapp, Dane van Niekerk, Mignon du Preez, Chloe Tryon, Shabnim Ismail, Faye Tunnicliffe, Yolani Fourie, Masabata Klaas, Moseline Daniels.

Pitch and Conditions

The match is going to be held at Gris Islet, St. Lucia. The weather forecast for the match day is missed. There is some rain around in the region and we are likely to have some showers at some point in the day. The likelihood of non-stop torrential rain is minimal and we should be able to get a full game in.

The pitch in St. Lucia is pretty good for cricket. It offers some help to the fast bowlers and value to the batters for playing their shots.

Two high-quality sides should be able to score plenty of runs. We think a score of about 130 should be par.

ENGW vs RSAW Betting Tips

England has a very good opportunity to knock a favored opponent out of the WorldT20 in this match. South Africa is under pressure and will need to play its absolute best to win. Both sides are pretty evenly matched but we feel that South Africa is the better side fundamentally.

Back South Africa to win.
