ESS vs GLA Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Jul 13, 2018

The competition in Vitality T20 Blast is getting fiercer with every passing day and we have Essex locking horns with Glamorgan on 13th July at County Ground, Chelmsford. Both the teams have two points in two games, but have two teams between them in the points table, thanks to Essex's heavy loss in their first game which hammered their net run rate. Although Glamorgan lost their second match, the margin of loss was minute. Another win for Glamorgan here will put them amongst the table toppers.

ESS vs GLA Team Previews

Essex

Essex just managed to get over the line in their previous match against Middlesex just has Simon Harmer pulled DJ Bravo towards the midwicket boundary on the second last delivery of the match. Simon Harmer's five-ball innings yielded 12 runs which was as important as Adam Wheater's innings.

Chasing the target of 180, they needed a good start to always have the target within their reach. It was a perfect opening partnership for them with Wheater taking the bowlers to the cleaners while Varun Chopra building it run-by-run. Wheater departed with just 57 runs on the board, but he had done his job. He scored 45 runs off just 18 deliveries which allowed Varun Chopra and Tom Wesley to get in before taking charge. However, the charge never came. Chopra, Westley, and Bopara departed in quick succession leaving Essex in a spot of bother.

Ryan ten Doeschate tried to accelerate their innings, but after a brief knock of 18 off 12, he, too, holed out in the deep. Essex needed 31 off the final three overs when Dan Lawrence hit some lusty blows to bring it down to 17 off 2 overs. Simon Harmer finished things off quickly by hitting a six and then a four to take Essex home with a couple of balls to spare. Harmer redeemed himself with the bat considering he was a tad expensive with the ball though he dismissed two batsmen. Adam Zampa was difficult to read for the Middlesex's batsmen and he ended up with the figures of 3-0-21-1.

Although Essex were able to notch a victory in this match, they were far from convincing. In order to garner a couple of points from their next game, they'd need to improve and improve quickly, as we move into the important part of the tournament

Glamorgan

Glamorgan ended up on the losing side despite a captain's knock from Colin Ingram. He top-scored for them with 81 runs off just 44 deliveries to take Glamorgan to a competitive total of 173. It was a used pitch and that total should have been enough had their bowlers stick to the plan.

Inaccurate bowling coupled with an excellent exhibition of batting from Luke Wright and Laurie Evans knocked Glamorgan out of the game. They stitched together a partnership of 123 taking only 76 deliveries.

Glamorgan bowled a little too short on a wicket which had some assistance for the spinners. Defending 41 from the last five overs was never going to be easy and Wright ensured the same. Sussex eventually achieved the target with 8 balls and 8 wickets to spare.

Shaun Marsh suffered an injury as he dived in an attempt to stop a powerful off-drive from Luke Wright, but failed to land properly. He's been called back by Cricket Australia in order to get fit before Australia's test series against Pakistan to be played in October. His injury is yet another setback for Glamorgan.

ESS vs GLA Betting Tips

Glamorgan have done well with the bat in both their matches, but their bowlers haven't really produced the results their captain wanted from them. Essex, on the other hand, were a little untidy even though they managed to achieve the winning total. With a strong batting lineup and a consistent performance in both their matches, Glamorgan are better-placed to win this match.
