MLSW vs HBHW Match Prediction - Oct 19, 2019

Two teams that have been scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to the last few seasons of the WBBL are going to be starting their WBBL 05 campaign against each other. We are talking about the Melbourne Stars and the Hobart Hurricanes.

The Stars finished seventh out of eight teams while the Hurricanes finished dead last. Starting well is going to be very important especially before they come up against some of the more fancied teams in this tournament.

Melbourne Stars vs Hobart Hurricanes WBBL 05 is going to be played at the Junction Oval, Melbourne on the 19th of October 2019.

MLSW vs HBHW Team Previews

Melbourne Stars Women

There are a number of new faces in the Melbourne Stars team for WBBL 05 and a strong core of international players as well. The focus is going to be on Elyse Villani as the captain of the Melbourne Stars team and an Australian international of repute.

She is going to be very critical to the batting fortunes of the Melbourne Stars in this tournament. Villani has support from the South African pair of Lizelle Lee and Mignon du Preez.

While Lizelle Lee is going to play the role of the aggressor at the top of the order, Mignon du Preez will stabilize the middle-order alongside Villani. Emma Inglis and Katey Martin are also very decent players to help shore up the batting.

Lucy Cripps and Tess Flintoff are also two youngsters included in the squad as batters and could be given a chance in the opening match.

Kristen Beams, Nicola Hancock, and Holy Ferling are expected to lead the bowling attack ahead of the first match.

The batting looks better for the Stars this season but the bowling is still pretty inexperienced.

Hobart Hurricanes Women

It is almost an unrecognizable Hobart Hurricanes squad with multiple changes from last year. That is not a bad thing at all considering the difficulties the team has been having for the past two seasons. Putting together a squad from scratch is not eacy and it can take some tinkering before the best possible combination emerges.

This is one reason that the Hobart Hurricanes could be vulnerable early in WBBL 05.

There are some very good players in the Hurricanes squad as well, though.

Tayla Vlaeminck, Maisy Gibson, Chloe Tyron, Nicola Carey, and Hayley Matthews give the Hurricanes a very decent bowling attack. Vlaeminck has impressed everyone who has seen her at this early stage in her career while Maisy Gibson is a good leg-spinning option.

The all-rounders in the side will help add some depth to the attack and provide multiple options to the captain.

Having Hayley Matthews in the side is a huge win for the Hurricanes. The West Indian all-rounder excels at T20 cricket and even though she is not going to be around for the entire tournament, she could still have a major impact for the team.

Heather Knight, Hayley Matthews, Nicola Carey, and Fran Wilson are the batters that will be expected to do the bulk of the scoring.

There are some very good pieces in the squad to work with and we think the Hurricanes might have a much better season if they can get a good balance in their playing eleven early.

Pitch and Conditions

The Junction Oval in Melbourne has always been a good batting strip. It is typically a little slow and low but very flat. The pace bowlers have very little to work with and it is the slower bowlers that will be the bigger threat.

Once the batters get set, they should be able to make the most of the surface and score freely.

MLSW vs HBHW Dream11 Prediction

There are some exciting batters on both sides but it looks like the Stars are better equipped in that category. We like the bowers of the Hurricanes better and so have tried to hedge our bets between both teams. There also seems to be an excess of wicketkeeper-batters in the two sides!
