NZ vs BAN Match Prediction & Betting Tips - Mar 15, 2019

Bangladesh continued its disastrous tour of New Zealand and remained far from coming close to a win. The second test had two whole days rained out and the pitch was unmistakably flat as well. There was nothing in it that should have allowed New Zealand to win with almost an entire day to spare.

The gulf between the two sides is way too large and there is very little to suggest that Bangladesh has made any sort of improvement or is coming close to finding its feet in New Zealand. The Black Caps have played professionally and not let up a single time. Almost all of their players have been in the runs, the major bowlers have been picking wickets in clumps, and the home side has barely been tested.

The third test is going to be played at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch and early indications suggest that things are not about to get any easier for the Bangladeshis.

NZ vs BAN Team Previews

New Zealand

Two consecutive tests with innings victory for the New Zealand players is something to be proud of irrespective of whom it comes again. Bangladesh has been a nemesis for New Zealand over the years and getting their own back in home conditions will have felt good to the Kiwis.

There is not much left to chase or change for the New Zealand side ahead of the third test.

Ross Taylor, who was the only batsman left short of runs after the first test, has also registered a double century in the second test. Every major batsman is in terrific form and Kane Williamson is on the verge of becoming the top-ranked batsman in test cricket.

There is a small chance that Williamson may not be a part of the third test at all because of a shoulder niggle that he picked up. The ICC World Cup 2019 is around the corner and New Zealand may not want to take any chances with their best batsman’s health.

Jeet Raval, Tom Latham, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, and BJ Watling are a very strong batting lineup especially against a Bangladesh bowling attack that has been pretty ineffective on these surfaces. We don’t think New Zealand is going to worry about not having Kane Williamson for the last test.

The bowlers for New Zealand would have seen the images of the pitch in Christchurch. It promises to a raging seamer with movement in it for as long as the test will last. Trent Boult, Neil Wagner, Tim Southee, and even Colin de Grandhomme should be a handful on such a surface.

Boult and Wagner have had the most success but we think it could Southee that ends up extracting the most help from the surface and returning with a bag full of wickets.

Bangladesh

It must be a relief for the Bangladeshi’s that their tour to New Zealand is about to end. Test cricket is not their forte and we can't imagine too many players are going to be looking forward to this last test match.

We find it hard to see how the Bangladeshis are going to compete against New Zealand in this test. Their bowling has not been able to pick up ten wickets even once and their batsmen have failed to learn from their mistakes.

It is highly predictable that the New Zealand bowlers are going to use a predominantly short ball attack against the Bangladeshi batsmen. Yet, none of the Bangladeshis seem to be prepared to face that barrage. They keep on getting into awkward positions or trying to take on the bowling even when there are fielders placed for the hook.

The result has been a loss of wickets that has consigned the side to an innings defeat in both the games.

Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah have been the senior batsmen to have shown some grit and fight among the Bangladeshi batsmen but they are not going to be able to win test matches just on their own.

A collapse always seems to be just a wicket or two away from the Bangladeshi side and this is something that keeps New Zealand buoyed even when Bangladesh is able to stitch a partnership together.

It is going to be difficult to recommend backing any of the Bangladeshi batsmen on what should be a wicket with plenty of movement. We hope that the Bangladesh cricket team looks at the challenge of playing on a lively surface positively.

It gives their bowlers the best chance of picking up ten wickets. Their fast bowlers need all the help that they can get and perhaps the surface will be able to get them to perform above expectations.

NZ vs BAN Toss Prediction

Pitch and Conditions

The 3rd test between New Zealand and Bangladesh is going to be played at the Hagley Oval, Christchurch. The weather is expected to be fair although there is some rain around in the area. We could have some rain stoppages but hopefully, nothing that is going to wash away large chunks of the test like it did in the second test.

The wicket in Christchurch is expected to be fast, bouncy, and full of movement. The fast bowlers should have their best outing yet.

NZ vs BAN Betting Tips

New Zealand is not going to lose this, I think that is a fair assumption on our part. Weather seems to be the only thing stopping New Zealand from winning this match and that does not seem likely either. We would recommend betting on another innings victory for New Zealand, especially if they win the toss and bat first.

Back New Zealand to win.
