SAC vs QSL Match Prediction - Nov 28, 2021

Tasmania's win over Western Australia has rendered the Marsh One Day Cup points table well and truly open. Western Australia may be leading the ladder at the moment, but New South Wales and Tasmania are breathing right down their neck. Placed in the bottom half of the points table, Queensland and South Australia both have some work to do to challenge the teams placed in the top half of the ladder.

Up next in the tournament, Queensland and South Australia are all set to take on each other in what is going to be an important contest in context of the positions on the ladder. The match between the two sides is to be played at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide on Sunday, 28th November 2021.

South Australia Redbacks

South Australia may not be sitting pretty on the points table, they certainly have not done too bad. Before today, they were the only side that had defeated Western Australia in the tournament. One aspect where they have faltered in this competition thus far is consistency. They will be looking to set things with a string of wins in their matches to come.

As it currently stands, South Australia are placed at the fifth spot on the points table with four points and a net run rate of -0.205. They started their campaign in a rather poor manner but quickly bounced back with a massive win over Western Australia. However, they could not extend their winning run beyond one game and then lost to Western Australia by a massive margin. One thing that stands out about the matches that they have played is that all matches that South Australia have been part of have been high scoring.

Their previous match was a rain inflicted encounter wherein their batsmen failed to do the damage upfront and ended up with a reasonably good total of 193 in the match shortened to 35 overs. Barring Jake Weatherald, none of their top-order batsmen managed to score a reasonably big personal score. Travis Head did look in good form, but he perished in the bid to score quickly. Thanks to their lower-order, they eventually managed to put a fighting total on the board.

For most part of the second innings, South Australia looked well in control before Shaun Marsh and D'Arcy Short stitched together a terrific unbeaten partnership to drive Western Australia home. Llyod Pope picked up two wickets, but Brendan Doggett was the pick of the bowlers for South Australia.

On paper and as per the performance in the tournament so far, South Australia are clearly very strong in the batting department. They not only have a well-experienced top-order, but they also bat deep. However, their bowlers have struggled to pick wickets and keep things tight in almost all their matches and that is the primary reason for South Australia languishing in the bottom half of the points table. It is high time that their bowlers get their act together and if they can do that, South Australia will surely be in business in the upcoming match and going forward.

Queensland

Just like South Australia, Queensland have won just one match in the competition so far and will be desperate to get some wins under their belt. Not only have their struggled to win, they have a terrible net run rate of -0.748, which they would want to improve going forward. Having said that, they won one of their matches with a bonus points, thanks to which they are currently placed at the fourth spot and a win here will push them to the second spot on the ladder.

Queensland are coming off a win over South Australia in the Sheffield Shield and although that win came in a different format, it should boost their confidence. In the Marsh Cup specifically, they are coming off a loss at the hands of Western Australia in their previous match. Prior to that, they registered a win over Tasmania after facing a heavy defeat from South Australia in their opening match.

On paper, Queensland have a terrific side with the likes of Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Max Bryant, and Matt Renshaw available in the batting lineup. However, we might not see all of them play in the upcoming match with Australia set to host England for The Ashes. On the bowling front, however, Queensland are likely to be at their full strength. Mark Steketee and Matt Kuhnemann have been decent in the build up to this match and a lot will depend on how they perform against a potent South Australian batting unit.

Queensland have a decent side and will need to perform at their peak potential against a power-packed South Australia side. South Australia have already defeated them before and Queensland will be wary of that. If Queensland are able to perform as per their potential, getting past them is going to be incredibly difficult.
