We have mentioned the OCB expert cricket betting tips and the latest Cricket World Cup 2023 betting predictions below.

World Cup 2023 Betting Predictions

Now that you understand how to bet on ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 matches and which bookmaker to use for that you need to know a bit more about the winning probability of the world cup teams. A total of 10 teams will clash in a round-robin format tournament and without a proper betting strategy backed by solid betting prediction it will be chaotic.

Therefore, we have brought to you the ICC World Cup 2023 betting predictions provided by some of the best think tanks who work for us. Remember that betting predictions are not 100% correct and should be used for formulating your own betting plan.

Outright Betting predictions

Winner of the tournament: India (3.10) Bet365

As all the participating teams build up good momentum in the run-up to this contest, it is becoming increasingly difficult to pick a clear winner. However, we feel India has a good chance of lifting the title for the 3rd time in history.

India was crowned the Champions when the tournament was last played on the subcontinent. The team has historically played well on home turf, which should give them plenty of confidence. The squad appears to be well-balanced, and playing in front of a massive home crowd is always an added benefit.

Bet On India Here

Top run-getter: Virat Kohli

There are plenty of quality batsmen who will be featuring in this tournament. However, the 3 names that are at the forefront of this list are Kane Williamson, Babar Azam, and Virat Kohli.

While all 3 are brilliant in their way, we are going to back Virat Kohli for this bet. He relishes playing on the big stage and that brings out the best in him.

He is currently 34 years old and this might very well be his last World Cup appearance and Kohli would like to sign off on a high. He has picked up good form over the past few months and is averaging 47.88 in this calendar year.

Top bowler: Mitchell Starc

There is something about Mitchell Starc that just allows him to raise his game in the World Cup. His left-arm quick bowling is going to be essential to the Australian challenge. He bowls with the new ball, looks for wickets in the middle, and is also deadly at the death.

We expect him to be one of the top wicket-takers in the Cricket World Cup 2023 edition.

Teams to make it to the semifinals: India, Australia, England, Pakistan

England is the defending champions for this season and the `Bazball´ approach that it has adopted over the last couple of years has done wonders in helping it achieve success across all formats.

India is always a dangerous side, especially when it is playing on home turf. They have a strong batting line-up as well as a good pace attack that can help reach the top 4.

Australia: Australia has been a consistent force in the ODI format and is the most successful team in the history of the World Cup for a reason. They can adapt to the conditions and are known to perform well under pressure.

Pakistan: The conditions in India are quite similar to the ones at home and that gives Pakistan an edge over other teams including South Africa and New Zealand. The astute leadership of Babar Azam has worked well and Pakistan has achieved success in the build-up to this tournament.

World Cup 2023: Teams Review

Now that you have seen who would lead the 2023 World Cup through our betting predictions, let us show you our OCB team expert analysis of each team.

India

India has picked up a squad that was much on the expected lines. The selection committee has decided to play it safe and refrain from making brave calls. Much of the squad that has traveled to Sri Lanka for the Asia Cup has been retained, except Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and Prasidh Krishna.

The top-order batting is in good shape with the inclusion of Shubhman Gill, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli. The middle-order, which was one of the biggest concerns for India heading into the 2019 World Cup is now struggling to accommodate all contenders.

Everyone seems to be scoring runs and it will be brutal to choose between Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja haven’t been too consistent with the bat and the management has included Shardul Thakur as a potential all-rounder. How much Shardul Thakur actually contributes with the bat is another question altogether.

Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace attack and will be joined by Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. They are inarguably India’s best seamers at the moment. The spin attack however isn’t the strongest as Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja have similar bowling skills. India could have easily opted for an Ashwin or a Chahal in the squad.

Of course, with an injury to Axar Patel, Ashwin is still in with a chance to make it for the World Cup 2023.

World Cup 2023 India Squad

Rohit Sharma (C), Shubhman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur

Australia

Australia is the most successful team in ODI World Cup history, lifting the title on a record 4 occasions. They will now look to extend the record in this edition. Despite struggling with injuries, the team is banking on its most experienced players to bring home the trophy.

Pat Cummins will lead the side and will lead the pace attack too, alongside Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, while Sean Abbott has been included as a backup seamer. Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar are the two full-time spinners and will play an important role in the spin-friendly wickets in India.

Travis Head was injured in the leadup to the tournament and his absence will be a massive loss. David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, and Steve Smith will be the key batsmen for Australia in this tournament. All three of them have a lot of experience in Indian conditions and lift their games when the crunch matches come.

The team management has also included quite a few all-rounders in a bid to increase the depth in batting, including Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Green, and Marcus Stoinis. Alex Carey is likely to be the first choice behind the stumps.

The reliance on part-timers could compromise the bowling attack if Australia does opt to go in for a batting-heavy balance.

World Cup 2023 Australia Squad

David Warner, Travis Head, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Marsh, Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins (C), Alex Carey, Josh Inglis, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, Sean Abbott, Adam Zampa

England

England put up a scintillating performance in the last edition of the World Cup, which it hosted, to win the coveted World Cup trophy for the first time. The team management has taken some bold calls in a bid to retain the title.

Jos Buttler will lead the strong batting line-up which features the likes of Johnny Bairstow, Joe Root, Harry Brook, and Dawid Malan. The biggest positive for the team will be the return of Ben Stokes, who has `unretired´ himself in a bid to help his team defend the title. However, he is likely to play purely as a batsman.

The addition of Harry Brook in place of Jason Roy was a brave call and showed the ruthless pursuit of excellence and weightage given to the current form by the England team.

The all-rounders in the team include Moeen Ali, Liam Livingstone, and Sam Curran. Gus Atkinson, who was in brilliant form during the Hundred as well as in county matches, will replace Jofra Archer. He will have the company of Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, and Reece Topley in the seam department, while Adil Rashid is the lone specialist spinner.

England is easily one of the strongest white-ball teams in the world right now and it will be hoping to become the third team (after Australia and the West Indies) to defend a World Cup title.

World Cup 2023 England Squad

Jos Buttler (C), Johnny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, David Willey, Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Reece Topley, Liam Livingstone, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid

South Africa

South Africa has forever been labeled as a choker on the international stage, especially when it comes to performances in ICC events. However, the team will now look to get rid of that tag by putting up a strong performance.

The team management has gone for a mix of experienced as well as young players and will bank on them to deliver the goods. As many as 8 players will be making their World Cup debut in October.

Temba Bavuma will lead a star-studded batting line-up, including the likes of Quinton de Kock, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Rassie van der Dussen, and Aiden Markram. De Kock has announced his ODI retirement after the World Cup and the team will be eager to give him a fitting farewell.

The pace attack will be led by Kagiso Rabada and will be joined by Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, and Sisanda Magala.

Gerald Coetzee, who recently made an excellent ODI debut, has also been included. The spinners, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi have plenty of experience bowling on the subcontinent pitches.

South Africa is flying under the radar right now and not a lot of people are picking it as a serious contender. We think that might be a mistake as the Proteas have a squad that is capable of beating any team on its day. If it manages to make it to the semis, it could very well find itself on the cusp of creating history.

World Cup 2023 South Africa Squad

Temba Bavuma (C), Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, Rassie van de Dussen, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, Sisanda Magala, Gerald Coetzee, Keshav Maharaj, Tabraiz Shamsi

Netherlands

This is the fifth time that the Netherlands team has qualified for the ODI World Cup and the first appearance since the 2011 edition. While no one expects them to win, the team will look to put up a good fight against the heavyweights.

The Netherlands put up a good performance in the World Cup Qualifiers held in Zimbabwe earlier this year and booked their berth by finishing as the runner-up in that series. The selectors have made a few changes to the squad since then.

Roelof van der Merwe and Colin Ackermann make a comeback in the 15. Both of them are quality all-rounders and bring in a wealth of experience. Max O’Dowd is likely to don the role of an opener alongside Vikramjit Singh, while Bas De Leede and Logan van Beek will add depth to the batting.

Sybrand Engelbrecht, who played the U19 World Cup for South Africa more than a decade ago, has earned his maiden international call. The team does lack variety in its spin attack.

World Cup 2023 Netherlands Squad

Vikramjit Singh, Sybrand Engelbrecht, Saqub Zulfiqar, Colin Ackermann, Scott Edwards (C), Wesley Barresi, Roelof van der Merwe, Bas de Leede, Teja Nidamanuru, Shariz Ahmed, Max O’Dowd, Logan van Beek, Paul Van Meekeren, Ryan Klein, Aryan Dutt

Pakistan

Pakistan was ranked the number one ODI team in the world till very recently according to the latest ICC rankings. They have put on some good performances in the recent past and will hope to keep up the good work.

Pakistan will bank on its pace attack to deliver the goods. Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf have put up some excellent performances in the ongoing Asia Cup and have shown that they can be effective on the slowest of pitches.

Of course, Naseem Shah has been injured and is ruled out of the World Cup, but having Hasan Ali as the backup is quite handy indeed. The team also has an extra seamer in the form of Mohammad Waseem Jr. should they need him.

The spin attack is a bit shaky though as they lack a quality slow bowler. Both Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan seem out of form and their roles will be crucial.

Coming to the batting, Babar Azam, Imam Ul-Haq, and Abdullah Shafique are in good form and can give the team a solid start. It will be interesting to see if Pakistan picks Fakhar Zaman, who is a proven match-winner but woefully out of form right now.

Mohammad Rizwan and Iftikhar Ahmed will shepherd the middle-order but this is where opponents will find weaknesses to exploit.

World Cup 2023 Pakistan Squad

Babar Azam (c), Abdullah Shafique, Fakhar Zaman, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imam ul Haq, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Saud Shakeel, Agha Salman, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr, Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Usama Mir

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka had one of the biggest lows in its ODI history as they failed to gain a direct entry to the event and had to face the ignominy of playing the World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

However, in a remarkable turn of form, the team has been undefeated in the ODIs since the start of that tournament and is on a 12-match winning streak at the time of writing this article.

Struggling with a plethora of injuries, Sri Lanka had rested some of its key players in the Asia Cup and will hope that they will be fit in time for the World Cup. These include Wanindu Hasaranga, Lahiru Kumara, Dushmantha Chameera, and Dilshan Madushanka.

As we know now, Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmanth Chameera have been ruled out of the World Cup. This puts a massive dent in their chances for the 2023 season.

Nevertheless, the current squad is playing well and the return of the injured players will only help the team do better.

The top-order batting will be the biggest strength for Sri Lanka as the likes of Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis, and Sadeera Samarawickrama are playing well. However, due to the poor form of Dasun Shanaka and Dhananjaya de Silva, the team lacks a quality finisher.

Matheesha Pathirana, Kasun Rajitha, Binura Fernando, and Pramod Madushan provide plenty of variety in the seam attack and will add bite to the spin attack, which is currently manned by Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage.

Bangladesh

Over the past few years, Bangladesh has shed the image of the underdogs and has considerably improved its performance, especially in ODIs. Twice, the team has reached the top 8 in the World Cup, and they will look to better that record in this edition.

Shakib Al-Hasan has taken over the reins of the team after a gap of almost 6 years and will likely lead the team for the World Cup too. He is in excellent form, with both the bat as well as the ball and that should only improve his confidence as he will be the most vital cog in the team.

Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hossain Shanto are both injured but will likely be available for selection.

In an interesting turn of events, Bangladesh has opted not to pick Tamim Iqbal for the World Cup even though he is now fit and has recently taken back his retirement after intervention from the Bangladeshi Prime Minister!

Towhid Hridoy has gradually settled into the middle order, while Shakib, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz will add depth to the batting. Shoriful Islam and Taskin Ahmed will lead the pace attack but the form of Mustafizur Rahman is a concern. The team will heavily depend on Shakib and Mehidy Hasan for their spin prowess.

Afghanistan

This is the 3rd consecutive World Cup appearance for Afghanistan in the marquee event and they will look to make the most of it. However, the team’s performance in the previous editions has been far from inspiring as they have managed to win just 1 of the 15 matches they have featured in.

The team's fortunes will largely depend on the performances of some of its key players, which include Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran have done well at the top of the order and their attacking style of batting is well suited for the conditions in India, where they will look to make the best use of the Powerplay.

Hashmatullah Shahidi will likely lead the team and will have the support of Rahmat Shah in the middle order, while Nabi and Najibullah Zadran will don the role of finisher.

The pace attack will likely feature Fazalhaq Farooqi, Gulbadin Naib, and Abdul Rahman, while Rashid, Mujeeb ur Rahman, and Noor Ahmed will be the 3 spin options.

If there was one team that no one else would be comfortable facing, that would be Afghanistan. Most teams will go in expected to win but they will be aware of the threat that Afghanistan poses. We don’t think they will qualify for the semis but a couple of big upsets cannot be ruled out.

New Zealand

New Zealand made it to the Finals in 2015 as well as in the 2019 editions but failed to clear the finishing line. They have picked a well-balanced squad time and will once again look to have a big impact.

Kane Williamson, who suffered an injury at the start of the IPL, has recovered sufficiently and is back in the squad. His return not only brings a stable batting option but also a wealth of experience. Devon Conway scored a century against England on the team’s recent tour to the country and will likely open the batting.

New Zealand also has Glenn Phillips, Tom Latham, and Henry Nicholls to strengthen the batting. Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner are the two all-rounders. Trent Boult makes a return to the team and will lead a pace attack that has some quality seamers like Tim Southee, Kylie Jamieson, and Lockie Ferguson, while young Rachin Ravindra is likely to join Santner in the spin department.

Is there ever a world event where New Zealand is not the dark horse? Their ability to raise their game in multi-format events, the flexibility in their squad, and the modern approach that they take to ODI cricket make them a contender once more.

The only challenge we see them struggling against is a spin-friendly surface on which they have to chase.

Kane Williamson (c), Tom Latham (wk), Devon Conway (wk), Glenn Phillips (wk), Will Young, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Rachin Ravindra, Mitchell Santner, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee

About ICC World Cup - Origin & History

The first official Cricket World Cup was hosted in England back in 1975. Although there were games played around the globe that were touted as the matches to decide the world champion, this was the first time that the tournament as we know it today was organized and held in one place. Many of the same teams that were invited back then are still in the top contending today as well.

The first three editions saw England hosting the event as this was the only place at the time that had the resources to host such a big event. This was the time that the West Indies team was dominating the World Cup after winning the first two official ones and then losing the third final in an upset against India.

As the game grew more popular around the world the pressure to host it elsewhere increased. In the 1987 edition, we saw it move for the first time when India and Pakistan jointly hosted the Cricket World Cup.
