ABOUT THE T20 MUMBAI LEAGUE

Organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association and promoted by Probability Sports, the T20 Mumbai League was first held in 2018.

Formed with the aim of providing more structure for T20 cricket at grassroots level in Mumbai, the tournament is one of several, mid-profile regional T20 tournaments in India.

It therefore sits on a par with competitions such as the Karnataka Premier League, Tamil Nadu Premier League and Saurashtra Premier League.

It attracts some international stars, though the best players tend to be those who represent Mumbai at state level.

T20 MUMBAI LEAGUE TEAMS

Originally formed with six teams, the second edition of the tournament, in 2020, was expanded to include two more.

The following eight teams took part in the 2019 tournament, which North Mumbai Panthers won.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

The expanded 2019 tournament featured two groups of four teams, with each team playing five T20 matches in total.

The top two teams in each group then progress to the semi-finals and, from there, the final.

HISTORY OF THE T20 MUMBAI LEAGUE

The inaugural T20 Mumbai League tournament was staged in 2018 and featured six teams, with big-name players including Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube all involved.

Iyer topped the batting charts with 363 in his six matches, including five half-centuries, while Dube scored 213 runs and also took 12 wickets.

Yadav’s Triumph Knights MNE emerged victorious, however, as he hit 90* from 42 balls in the final in a three-run win against Shvaji Park Lions.

Last year, two new teams were added to the tournament and Prithvi Shaw led North Mumbai Panthers to victory.

The India international scored 61* in the final, in a 12-run win against SoBo SuperSonics, and was crowned player of the tournament too.
