The Caribbean nation of St Vincent and the Grenadines is set to host the first major cricket tournament since the pandemic hit the world and brough the sport to a standstill. The Vincy Premier League (VPL), as it is called, is going to attract a huge amount of attention from around the globe. This is going to be the first tournament that is going to be held in a major cricketing nation and will feature test players on its roster.
The Vincy Premier League 2020 is going to be a franchise-based tournament starting on the 22nd of May and ending on the 30th. A total of six teams are going to be participating with all the matches to be held at the Arnos Vale Sporting Complex in St Vincent.
The tournament is going to be fast-paced with three matches a day. Considering that the tournament is following the T10 format, three matches should be no big deal at all. All games will be streamed live so there is a lot of attention expected for a tournament that would normally hold very little interest to anyone outside the West Indies.
The use of Saliva to shine the ball is going to be banned, as per the latest recommendations from the ICC, but the fans will be allowed to come and see since there are no restrictions in the country of St Vincent.
It is interesting to note that the Vincy Premier League is going to be held from 8:30 AM local time and go on till 2:00 PM Local time so that the audience in India can watch cricket in its prime time. The chief sponsor and organizer of the tournament is Dream11, so the tournament is being targeted towards the Indian public.
