Essex

Essex could certainly use a star batter to carry the team on his back, as we’re still waiting for a breakout performance from someone. Robin Das is the top scorer with 125 runs, but that’s way below what batters on other teams are providing. He’s also dropped down lately, as his 69 top score was at the start of the season, and since then he hasn’t gone beyond 31*. Essex also needs more from Krushi, as 97 runs aren’t going to cut it.

Even if the Essex batting isn’t drawing headlines exactly, the bowling has been incredible for a team with a 2-2 record. This is down to Sams and Harmer, who have been pushing this team as far as they can go. Sams has put up great stats of 10/103 across four innings, while Harmer is equally as good with 10/115. Both have taken four wickets in a match and have been incredibly reliable.

Sussex

Sussex needs a dramatic turnaround, but we’re interested to see if Alsop (125 runs) and Burgess (113) can create a bit more of a spark for the team. Alsop has been wildly inconsistent, as he’s had two half-centuries, but also two matches of 3 and 4 runs, respectively. Bopara had a great start with 88*, but has made just 13 runs in his last three matches, which isn’t good enough.

Sussex isn’t so dangerous with the ball and is letting teams just walk all over them. Mills is the one bowler who can be counted on for at least two wickets per match (nine overall) and is actually quite efficient with only 119 runs given up, but he’s not getting much help. Crocombe is decent with five wickets, but there’s a slight drop-off in terms of talent after that.
