Auckland Aces

After beating the Canterbury team in their opening fixture, the Aces have endured a string of unfavorable results in the last 3 matches. They lost a game against the Otago Volts and played out a tie against the same opposition, and faced also lost their most recent match, played against the Central Stags. As a result, the Aces sit 5th on the points table.

Auckland will be hoping that the likes of George Worker, Mark Chapman, and Robert O’Donnell strike some form soon, as batting has been one of the weakest links for the team this season. Briggs and Worker did strike up an opening stand of 76 in their latest match and that is one positive that the Auckland team will take from that match despite facing a defeat.

Ben Horne has been the top-scorer so far with 108 runs from 4 innings but his effort hasn’t nearly been enough to lift the Aces. Sean Solia has been a standout performer with both, bat as well as the ball and has performed consistently well with both. Loius Delport is another bowler who has bowled some noticeable spells, including 2 for 23 in the last match. 

Canterbury Kings

The Kings were the runners-up in the previous two seasons but had a dreadful start to this season. They won their opening fixture played against the defending champions, the Northern Braves, but have since endured a string of 3 losses.

In their previous match, the Kings faced Wellington Firebird. Opting to bat first, the Kings could manage to put up a modest total of 132-8 in their 20 overs. Chad Bowes and Leo Carter, who have been the two top performers with the bat for the Kings, failed to score in the game.

At one stage, the Kings were 3 wickets from with just 33 on the board. But a steady partnership between Cole McConchie and Cam Fletcher allowed the hosts to get to a respectable score. However, that wasn’t nearly enough for the strong batting line-up of the Wellington Firebirds, who reached the target in the 12th over at the expense of just 2 wickets.

Henry Shipley and Ed Nuttall have been the two consistent performers with the ball for Canterbury, picking up 6 and 5 wickets respectively. However, the other bowlers, including William ORourke and Todd Astle will need to step up if the Canterbury Kings want to lift themselves from the bottom.
