Auckland Aces

Auckland Aces have had a dismal run in almost all of the tournaments, regardless of the formats they have played in recent times. It's been nothing too different in this edition of the Super Smash too as the Aces find themselves sitting in a terrible position, being the only team no longer in contention to qualify for the next round.

 

On the points table at the moment, Auckland Aces are placed at the sixth spot having won just a couple of matches from a total of nine played. They have 12 points to their name along with a net run-rate of -0.813, which also illustrates how dominated they have been in the matches they have lost. Even a big win here will not be enough to take them through and they would know it. It might well have an impact on how they come out in the middle, but we do expect them to come out all guns blazing, at least for their fans.

 

On paper, the Aces have a decent enough side, but lack of experience and poor execution has done them in. They would need a lot more from their senior players and the fact that they are out of the tournament already makes it more difficult for them. Having said that, they have ended up playing to their potential, the Northern Districts would certainly have their work cut out.

Northern Knights

With many Kiwi internationals on roster, Northern Districts are one of the most watchable sides in New Zealand's domestic circuit. They have done brilliantly over the years, but more recently, their form has dwindled down a bit - and that can be attributed to most of their senior stars not being available.

 

The same has been the case in this edition of the Super Smash too and Northern Districts would have some heavy lifting to do in their only remaining league match. As it currently stands on the ladder, the Northern Districts have played nine matches in total and have 18 points to their name, coming from three wins and as many losses. Besides, they have a net run-rate of 0.249, which could come in handy should things get tight. They would not only need a win here to qualify but would also want Central Districts to lose their respective match to feel safe.

 

On paper, Northern Districts still have a decent side with a few important players missing. They have shown their mettle in the three matches that they have won and would want to continue building on that. The good thing is the fact that the Auckland Aces have not had the kind of tournament that they would have wanted. Keeping all that into consideration, all Northern Districts would need to do is to play to their potential and if they are able to do that, getting past them could prove to be incredibly difficult.
