Canterbury Kings

Canterbury lost its crown to the Auckland Kings in the last season but is well on track to regain it. After finishing its first match of the season with a draw, the Kings have won each of its last 2 matches, including a massive win by an innings and 29 runs in the latest game against Otago. As a result, they are comfortably at the top of the points table, leading Central Districts by 3 points.

Tom Latham has been in excellent form this season, scoring 2 centuries, and is the top scorer for Canterbury. Cole McConchie scored a superb double-century in the last game. Leo Carter and Mitch Hay have performed well in patches, but overall, the Canterbury batting, other than the two top-order batsmen has left a lot to be desired. Matt Henry has been exceptional with the ball, picking up 23 wickets so far, and is also the top wicket-taker in the league for this season. He has received good support from William ORourke. 

Auckland Aces

The defending champions have looked like a shadow of their former self this season, facing consecutive losses in both its opening matches. However, they did manage to turn around things in their latest game, beating Wellington by 9 wickets. Auckland is currently 5th on the points table.

The top order hasn’t clicked for the Aces so far, as both Sean Solia and William O’Donnell have failed to get good starts. Robert O’Donnell was the top scorer for Auckland last season but has failed to have an impact this time around. The middle-order batsmen, particularly George Worker and Ben Horne have shown some character in an otherwise mediocre performance.

The bowling too has been lackluster and lacks the sting. Barring William Somerville, none of the bowlers have managed to trouble the opposition batsmen.
