The franchise from Dhaka will start a new season in the Bangladesh Premier League with a new name and a new owner as it faces the Khulna Tigers this Saturday at the Sher E Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.
The Dhaka Dominators in their previous avatars have won the BPL thrice, including the first two seasons, while the Khulna Tigers are yet to get their hands on the coveted trophy. Nevertheless, we are all set to have a closely-fought contest this weekend.

Dhaka Dominators
The Dominators played the previous season as Minister Dhaka and finished second last on the points table. However, they have completely revamped their squad since then and the new owners have splurged quite a bit to get some promising players into the squad.
The team will be led by Taskin Ahmed, who is an important pillar of the national team as well. Aiding him in the seam department will be Shoriful Islam and Al-Amin Hossain. Arafat Sunny is likely to play a key role with his left arm orthodox spin in this tournament.
The biggest overseas addition to the Dominators is Sri Lankan all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne, who has been a vital cog for his national team. However, he is currently playing international cricket in India and will only be available for a part of the League.
In his absence, much of the scoring responsibilities will fall on Soumya Sarkar and Dilshan Munaweera. Pakistani imports Shan Masood and Ahmed Shehzad have also been added to the squad but they too won’t be available for some matches in the tournament.

The Khulna Tigers haven’t been too successful in the BPL as they have managed to reach the Finals just once so far, in the 2019-20 season. They faced Rajshahi Royals but ended up on the losing side. In the most recent season, the Tigers finished 4th on the points table.
The Tigers have lost some of the key players from the previous season, including Sikandar Raza, Thisara Perera, Andre Fletcher, and Mushfiqur Rahim. The team will be led by Tamim Iqbal who was earlier with the Dhaka franchise. He will be joined by Mahmudul Hasan Joy, who had an excellent outing with Comilla Victorians in the last season.
Yasir Ali and Sabbir Rahman are likely to be quite impactful in the middle order. The team has also bought the hard-hitting Sri Lankan duo of Avishka Fernando and Dasun Shanaka, but both of them are currently on international duty.
The Tigers’ bowling strength appears to be quite impressive with the addition of Naseem Shah, Wahab Riaz, Paul van Meekeren, and Nasum Ahmed.

Pitch and Conditions
The surface at the Sher E Bangla stadium does deteriorate a bit in the longer formats but shouldn’t change much in the T20s. It provides equal opportunities for both, batsmen as well as bowlers. While the batsmen will find it easy to play their shots, the seam bowlers and the spinners can manage to get some movement and turn from the pitch.
A score of around 170 should be a competitive score to defend. The weather is expected to be sunny with a high of 26 degrees Celsius. The dew might make it difficult for the bowlers to grip the ball in the second innings.
