GGW vs RCBW Match Prediction - Mar 08, 2023

The Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore will be searching for their first win of the season as they face each other on Wednesday in the Women’s Premier League.

Both teams are winless after playing 2 matches each and are at the bottom of the points table. With just 3 spots available to move into the knockout stages, both, Giants and the Royal Challengers will have to up their game to remain in contention.

GGW vs RCBW Team Previews

Gujarat Giants Women

Despite having a strong batting line-up, the Gujarat Giants haven’t been off to a good start in the WPL. After being completely outplayed by the Mumbai Indians Women in the opening match, the Giants had a great chance of making a comeback as they faced a relatively weaker UP Warriorz in their second outing.

However, despite a superb bowling effort by Kim Garth, who took a fifer in her debut match, the Giants were unable to defend their total.

The team’s Captain and most experienced campaigner Beth Mooney injured herself in the match against Mumbai and is likely to miss at least a few matches as we wait for updates regarding the extent of damage to her ankle. In her absence, Sneh Rana will be leading the Giants.

Except for Harleen Deol, the Gujarat Giants do not have any big Indian names in the batting line-up and will have to rely on the likes of relatively inexperienced S Meghana and D Hemalatha to score runs. However, the team has a good mix of all-rounders in the form of Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland, and Sophia Dunkley, all of whom are powerful hitters.

The Giants will need to work on their bowling, especially at the death, as it was the main reason why they lost the previous match. The Giants conceded as many as 63 runs in the last 4 overs of the second innings, which is a record in successful chases in WT20s.

Sabbhineni Meghana, Sophia Dunkley, Harleen Deol, Annabel Sutherland, Sushma Verma, Ashleigh Gardner, Dayalan Hemalatha, Sneh Rana, Kim Garth, Mansi Joshi, Tanuja Kanwar.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Women

Just like their opponents for Wednesday, the Royal Challengers Bangalore have a star-studded batting line-up, but they have failed to fire in their first two games of the season.

The collaboration of Smriti Mandhana and Ellyse Perry had skyrocketed the fans’ expectations but they have been left disappointed as both of them have failed to play a match-winning inning. In addition to Mandhana and Perry, the Royal Challengers will be looking for better performances from their star all-rounders, Heather Knight and Sophie Devine.

The other Indian players in the middle order include Disha Kasat, Kanika Ahuja, and Richa Ghosh. But they haven’t played a lot on such a big stage and are likely to crumble under pressure. Megan Schutt and Renuka Thakur Singh are once again expected to lead the pace attack, but both have gone wicketless in the first two matches.

With the pitch at the Brabourne Stadium quite helpful to the spinners, the Royal Challengers will depend on Preeti Bose and Shreyanka Patil to get them some quick wickets.

GGW vs RCBW Toss Prediction

The team winning the toss will likely opt to bat first here.

Pitch and Conditions

As displayed in the last couple of matches, the pitch at the Brabourne Stadium is a batting paradise and we can expect to see another high-scoring encounter here. The average first-inning score here is around 170 but the team batting first will be looking to get closer to 200 to put pressure on the opposition.

The quicker bowlers will struggle here but the spinners will get some help, especially in the second innings. The weather will be clear with temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius.

GGW vs RCBW Betting Tips

Both the teams haven’t performed well and will be hoping to turn things around in this match. While they have somewhat similar strengths and weaknesses, we feel that the Royal Challengers have a slight edge here. They have a stronger batting line-up and a better mix of Indian and foreign players.

On the other hand, the Giants will be missing Beth Mooney, and their bowling has been quite underwhelming.

Bet on the Royal Challengers Bangalore to win.

    Smriti Mandhana (3.25)

Smriti Mandhana has scored 23 and 35 runs in her 2 innings so far and has looked to be in good touch. She is now due to play a big inning and the relatively weak bowling unit of the Gujarat Giants gives her the perfect opportunity to do so. We are therefore backing her to become the top scorer for her team here.

Kim Garth bowled a sensational spell of 5-36 in the last match and singlehandedly got her team within touching distance of a win. She has shown great discipline with her line and length and we expect her to carry on her great form from the last game in this match too.
