IND vs SL Match Prediction - Jan 03, 2023

India starts the 2023 cricket season with a short white ball series against Sri Lanka. First up are the T20 internationals and the opening fixture is going to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Every year is a World Cup Year now and this year it is the turn of the 50 Over Cricket World Cup.

This has meant that the T20 internationals are being viewed from a long-term perspective and team building. There are a lot of new faces in the Indian team that fans will be excited to see. Sri Lanka is the reigning Asia Cup Champion and will certainly come into this series believing it can win.

All of the best cricket betting sites have India as the overwhelming favorite to win this match and are offering pretty short odds. Should you be happy with those odds or perhaps look to bet on the upset?

Match prediction and cricket betting tips for India vs Sri Lanka 1st T20 2023. The match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on the 3rd Jan of 2023.

IND vs SL Team Previews

India

India has picked a T20 squad that finally seems to be heading into a new era. No Rohit Sharma, No Virat Kohli, and No KL Rahul for this series. There is also no Rishab Pant for this series and now with his accident, his absence could be a pretty long one. Hardik Pandya seems to be the long-term T20 captain for all intents and purposes with Suryakumar Yadav as his deputy.

India has picked just four out-and-out batters for this series. Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shubman Gill, SKY, and Rahul Tripathi. Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, and Hardik Pandya will all play dual roles but they are still primarily batters that can contribute in another field.

We think six out of these eight will make the playing eleven for the first match. Whoever the team goes with, India will have six quality batting options out of which at least two will be able to contribute with the ball if needed. All we hope for is for Sanju Samson to be given an extended run to prove himself!

The number seven position is likely to go to Axar Patel with Washington Sundar in the reserve. The four bowling options for India could be Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Harshal Patel, and Umran Malik.

This is a very strong team that is quite low on international experience but every single player has played a lot of IPL cricket. In home conditions, India is not going to be easy to beat.

Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has somewhat settled on the direction of its T20 team for the time being. Pathum Nissanka and Wanindu Hasaranga are the two youngsters leading the charge while Dasun Shanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, and Kusal Mendis have all made powerful impact performances in the recent past.

There is a lot of experience and belief in this Sri Lankan side. Believing them to be easy meat for the Indians is a huge mistake.

Sri Lanka has also brought back Avishka Fernando to strengthen the batting lineup but we are not sure if he will get a game immediately. Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Chamika Karunaratne all play a vital role in this long Sri Lankan batting lineup.

Bowling has been a bit of an issue for Sri Lanka in recent times but here again, they are building something that is pretty strong. Wanindu Hasaranga, Maheesh Theekshana, Pramod Madushan, and Lahiru Kumara could all find a place in the playing eleven.

Even players like Ashen Bandara, Kasun Rajitha, and Nuwan Thushara have done well while their under-19 star, Dunith Wellage is well on his way to a long international career.

If Sri Lanka can play fearless cricket, it will end up surprising a lot of people.

IND vs SL Toss Prediction

The team that wins the toss is going to want to field first. There is always a bit of dew around in Mumbai that favors the chasing team. Defending a target can be quite tricky.

Read our guide on toss predictions to learn how we analyze and come up with our tips.

Pitch and Conditions

There is no rain predicted in Mumbai on match day. That means we should be able to enjoy an uninterrupted contest. The pitch at the Wankhede is one of the best for batting in India. There is always a bit of pace and carry on offer while the small boundaries make six-hitting quite easy. High-scoring matches are common at the Wankhede and we think that is going to be the case in this contest as well.

Something around 170-180 could be just about par.

IND vs SL Betting Tips

This is a tricky one to call. India is coming into this match as the heavy favorite but we don't think the price being offered reflects the risk involved. Yes, India is playing at home with its IPL-proven youngsters, however, Sri Lanka is bringing an experienced and seasoned T20 team with a lot of proven talent.

The odds on offer for Sri Lanka to win are quite attractive and we think you should consider betting on the upset in this match. You are more than likely to have a great opportunity to hedge your bets during the match as well.

The Over/Under line available for Sri Lanka is very attractive. The Wankhede is a venue where sixes come quite easily. Sri Lanka certainly has the strength in its batting to clear the boundaries quite regularly and we are happy to bet Over 5.5 sixes for them in this match.
