Karnataka

Karnataka made a winning start to its latest campaign in the Vijay Hazare trophy, defeating Meghalaya by a huge margin of 115 runs. Each of the top-order batsmen, especially Ravikumar Samarth and Shreyas Gopal batted well to guide Karnataka toward a match-winning total.

The team has some extremely talented batsmen in the form of Manish Pandey and Mayank Agarwal, and they will likely play an important role if Karnataka were to qualify for the knockout stage. The batting was a weak link for Karnataka in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where they crashed out of the quarterfinals, and hopefully, coach Shashikanth would have identified and ironed out the issues.

The bowling department is spearheaded by Vidhwath Kaverappa and Krishnappa Gowtham. Shreyas Gopal picked up 3 wickets with his leg breaks in the game against Meghalaya, but how he performs against a quality batting lineup remains to be seen. 

Vidarbha

The Vidarbha team was unlucky in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as it lost to the eventual Champions Mumbai in the semifinals. However, the team will be looking to put that loss behind them, and look to make a fresh start here.

Their latest campaign however has started on a disappointing note, as Vidarbha lost its opening match against Delhi. Nevertheless, these are early days in the tournament, and the team has plenty of time to get its act together. Apoorv Wankhede and Akshay Wankhede were in top form in the SMAT and will be the two players to watch out for. Jitesh Sharma too has been a solid player lower down the order.

Yash Thakur was the top wicket-taker in last year’s edition and is still in great form as seen in the T20s.  What Vidarbha lacks is a quality all-rounder, and that may be a defining factor in this match.
